Considerations for my first Mech Mod

I am looking at getting a mech mod. but really so far the only thing that I have been looking at, other than the price point, was the appearance.
Then it hit me, I am probably going about this ALL WRONG...
What other factors should I consider? I know that I want a 26650. I also want a lockout. But what am I missing?

What I look for in a mechanical mod is adequate venting, dependability and average to low voltage drop. The venting can typically be confirmed through watching reviews. Dependability means it doesn't suffer from performance problems (bad contacts, bad switch) and it stays that way for a while. That can be confirmed through reading reviews and forums. For voltage drop I go to Calivapers and jkuro's data. If the mod is not in his list then it's back to reviews and forums. Personally, I don't look for mods that have the lowest V-drop, I just avoid ones that have high V-drop.

I won't buy a mod with springs and I won't buy a mod with plated contacts. That's what I look for first because it's important tot me. I liked the all copper hades clone with magnet button.What is important to you? Do you need an adjustable 510 connection? Would you rather deal with contacts that are eventually going to flake or would you clean your contacts weekly? As long as a mod doesn't have horrendous vdrop like the black panzer vdrop shouldn't be a consideration.

There are many factors to consider like mentioned above (contacts, spring vs magnet, venting) my suggestion is to find something you like appearance wise then start looking for reviews you can find them all over youtube etc. If you see several reviews that are not good keep looking. If price is a factor look at clones but be aware you often get what you pay for and you check out reviews for that particular clone as there are several clone brand names like tobeco. Also keep in mind the extras if you dont already have them batteries, charger, atty.

Lots of good info. Coincidentally i was looking at the SS Hades clone. I dont mimd cleaning my gear. My choice will be a clone as my budget demands. Ill probably also get a mutation x clone to go with it.

I have an original MX. For $25 and free shipping I don't think it's worth getting a clone, but that's just my $0.02

I've had a SS Hades clone for around 9 months now. I do like some things about it, but it has more cons that pros. The locking ring is troublesome, easily gets stuck in open or closed position. Like others have mentioned, it has a decent amount of voltage drop. Don't know if it's related, but the ramp-up time on whatever coils I have running in an atomizer take a comparably long time next to my other mech mods.

Actually, the only things I like about it are its appearance and that the firing spring is strong enough to not require locking when I set it down. I might get a Cerberus atomizer just to have a paired atty that sits flush on the top of the Hades, but that'll be it.

It's the only 26650-sized mech mod I own so I can't make any personal recommendations, but I'm looking to pick up either a King or Manhattan/Fuhattan since all have copper contacts and appear to have better quality.

Cant say anything personally about 26650's but ppl i know that have them prefer thier 18650's.

I myself use 18650 mods. Own a Pegasus, Changeling, Brass Stingray and a SS Nemesis clone. I know 26650's aren't much bigger but really only have a higher mah than the 18650's. Best thing to find is a good copper mod. I will warn you though when the copper tarnishes it will turn your hands green (reason my Pegasus is now retired).

I have decided not to go with Hades after reading a bunch of this. Instead now looking at the Nemesis. May even back off my earlier statement of going 26650 and going with the 18650 version.

I understand where you are coming from but I'm on a tight budget. The clone is like $9... I want to end up with one mod, one VV/VW, one flavor chaser, one cloud chaser, and one tank. I have an istick and a nautilus so that covers 2 of those. I'm hoping to get a decent mod and just a couple RDA's to suit me for whatever mood I'm in.

You might want to look at the Stingray X, Stingray brass, etc..it's pretty much a Nemesis with some refinements such as magnet switch, etc...but...you can always buy magnets for the switch on the nemesis....

the only advantage with Nemesis is the adjustable 510 pin with screw mechanism versus a floating pin on Stingray series...my Odin RDA it has short 510 pin..so it doesn't connect very well with my Stingray X clone..but sits flush/tight with my Nemesis...

18650s are tried and true and generally have lower internal resistance ( = less voltage drop). To my knowledge, there are no 26650s that have a reliable continuous amp rating (and you'll want to go by the continuous rating, not the dubious "pulse rating") higher than that of good 18650s.

I ordered my first mech, lovingly titled Brass + Stainless Steel Mod on the Fasttech. It was <$20 USD for the 3 sized of tubes, and it's a GP paps clone. I've heard nothing but good things about it, but still waiting for it to ship.

I've mainly heard how nice the switch is, so we'll see. Just search for GP paps on Fasttech and that's what you'll see, if you're interested.

Yeah that looks sharp! Nice find! all the reviews had good things to say except they didn't like a groove... that sounds pretty insignificant. Let us know how good that thing is when ya get it. I'm pretty interested to hear.
