I never imagined my mother using e-mail back in the 80s and 90s. I certainly could not have imagined my cigarette would eventually be plugged into my computer. While I was using CompUServe and Q-Link (AOL for the C-64) since the early 1980s and even helped write Sprint On Demand for the EVDO phones, I'm oddly not much a fan of every tech gadget out there. Most of it is useless crap. However, I must say my love for tobacco struck caught my attention for technology gadgets when I really looked into e-cigarettes. I always wrote them off as some quit-smoking gimmick. I've smoked for 22 years, around 2 packs/day. I only quit once for 2 months on Nicorette. I hated the stomach pains from Nicorette. With Georgia considering raising cigarette taxes again, I started to consider my alternatives, include longzes, which my uncle has used for a few years.Blu caught my attention. Those were sharp. Then, I stumbled upon Volcano. Wow, the LCD pack really caught my attention. The coconut flavor, lower cost of Volcano cartridges, and the better customer service also caught my attention too. It seems though a lot of people hate the L88. I like the idea of having everything in a box to carry around with me and the smaller size. I'd also would really prefer the blue LED, blue logo, and blue LCD for the pack if Volcano would just offer the black and blue color scheme.I also started to find all the others out there. The eGo and Spade seem the way to go due more to longer battery life than anything or the upgraded battery in the 510 or other pens and cigars out there. I don't like the large size nor would I care for cloud volume. I thought the purpose of an e-cigarette was to reduce the amount of smoke and not just eliminate the mess and smell of ashes and butts. People are not going to like a lot of vapor even if it is PG, water, and/or glycerin. I'd imagine it would also form a small sticky layer of substance on everything. I'd rather have the vapor in my lungs than on everything else. And I'm sure you still carry around a lot of flavors on your clothes.I do have some concerns.1. I tend to chew stuff. I destroy straws in 1 hour. I destroy plastic cups in 2 hours. I destroy plastic pens in 3 hours. I'd want metal or a highly durable shore d polymer.2. I don't want to spend my time acting like a pothead where he spends all his free time playing and maintaining his equipment and juice. I'm not going to drip or dip an atty or cartridge. I'm not going to mix my own. I might work with refilling them, but I'd prefer disposables, especially if I'm using a shore a rigid polymer.3. I'd rather change a cartridge than have to deal with filling them on the spot. 4. I'd rather only have to recharge at the end of the day.5. I don't care about cloud production.6. I don't want to spend a lot of money. The idea is to save money.7. I don't want to have to carry around a lot of supplies. I'd rather have 4 fully assembled and ready to go than messing around stuff. I'll need to have one ready to go at reach. I don't mind carry something small in the truck and like the idea of being able to throw the kit in my pocket for going out.8. I don't want to have to use multiple vendors. That is a good way to over-spend.I'm leaning towards getting the deluxe L88 Volcano kit (25 cartons of carts) with plans to buy 4 more batteries and attys if things go well with it. I might go with the 510 once they actually sell it in blue and use the LCD PCC. I'd consider ripping the guts out of the former case and mod it to hold 6-8 fully assembled L88s in foam. Volcano seems to have more attractive carts, flavors, prices, and customer service than Blu. Just wish Volcano did blue. The thought of having different flavors in different LCD colors is also an idea.I'd rather when I do laundry clean all my attys and refill them if I go with buying separate eliquid though I'd be concerned I'll chew through the carts anyway so I'd need to dispose of them. I'd rather have a bunch of cheap units than have to maintain more expensive units. I'd probably even chew the aluminum (I can destroy an aluminum can in 4 hours) ones so I'd go with stainless steel if I did go with an e-cigar.Any suggestions are appreciated. I'm also giving a look at that other L88 brand, Modern Vapor. They seem to have the best selection of batteries in different colors ready to ship along with carts and a PCC. I don't want to consider a metal PCC since I don't want a metal box ripping my pocket. Might as well just have a camera bag in the truck and a USB car charger if you just leave it in the truck.

MY EYES!!!
;)

First of all, its up to you.
Next, I have a similar story.

I tried it, Ive saved alot of $$, no longer smoke, and will break even for a tenth of the cost I would have paid for real cigarettes.

No guarantees. Hell, users arent assured of even safety st this point. But I feel alot better.

All I can say from my experiance, try it.

I'm a big Modern vapor fan. I own about every color combo of sideshos they have. All in less then 3 weeks. I'm planning on getting the 902 when he gets the new colors in. It has great reviews as well. Tony is great with the customer service and the products themselves are very user friendly. I prefer filling my own carts most of the time. I spend about 15 minutes each night cleaning everything up and refilling for the next day. I carry 4 assembled ready to go as well as some extra juice, but I like variety. I love the PCC for these things. I can't speak to if it will work for you, but they got me off analogs completely in less then a week after smoking for 30 years. I also just bought 2 kits and a couple of extra attys and batteries for my parents, so yes, definitely have a lot of faith in the product. You should look at some of the reviews in their forum and then call and talk to Tony. Yes, he answers the phone himself. And yes, I also own a 510. While its ok, I still prefer the Sideshos. Exposed atty, prefer the size and they don't get so hot they burn some of my juices.

My concerns were nearly identical... I went with a KR808 from V4L - that would meet your no hassle and economic concerns better than most cartomizer versions. (Get at least three batteries....)

As far as saving more money, you can squirt some juice into a cartomizer with ease with a syringe... no mess... not feeling like a tinkering pothead. You don't have to do this... but it's pretty quick and immediately gratifying.

...Just go with something tried and true for your first experience. Scroll down to the vendor part of the threads and evaluate who is popular.

Lastly, I do think a cartomizer version would suit you... you won't have to play around with it as much... you can pop a cart on and vape it for a few hours instead of stopping to drip every 20-25 drags...

Good luck.

HG,

I do have some concerns.

No ecig handles them all, so #8 is likely not an option if you want all concerns filled.

1. I tend to chew stuff. I destroy straws in 1 hour. I destroy plastic cups in 2 hours. I destroy plastic pens in 3 hours. I'd want metal or a highly durable shore d polymer.

Super T Manufacturing, Innovative manufacturer of electronic cigarette products.
...scroll down 1/2 way to the mouthpieces.
Problem here is that these are for those that drip. It's just a mouthpiece not a cartridge. However you could fit one of these on the top of a cartomizer.

2. I don't want to spend my time acting like a pothead where he spends all his free time playing and maintaining his equipment and juice. I'm not going to drip or dip an atty or cartridge. I'm not going to mix my own. I might work with refilling them, but I'd prefer disposables, especially if I'm using a shore a rigid polymer.

refilling = 510, Tornado, 510 mod
Disposables = cartomizer - ie. KR808D-1 battery or an adapter for it for cartomizers.

3. I'd rather change a cartridge than have to deal with filling them on the spot.

Cartomizers or have some cartridges prefilled and capped.

4. I'd rather only have to recharge at the end of the day.

Mods with 900mAh or more. Or PCC or take along enough charged batts to make it through the day. 2 Tornados/eGos would do it. 2 Xtra Long KR8 batts, maybe 3 510 mega batts.

5. I don't care about cloud production.

Cartomizers would be good.

6. I don't want to spend a lot of money. The idea is to save money.

If you stick with it, you'll save money. There's an upfront cost. Depending on how much you smoke now, what that costs vs. how much ejuice you end up vaping and cost. For example - I was a 3 PPD smoker - that $18/day around here. I vape 30ml/week - that's @$8/week for me - but I bought bulk. You can get 30ml for @$10 at heaven gifts - $15 shipping but you can order 9 bottles.

7. I don't want to have to carry around a lot of supplies. I'd rather have 4 fully assembled and ready to go than messing around stuff. I'll need to have one ready to go at reach. I don't mind carry something small in the truck and like the idea of being able to throw the kit in my pocket for going out.

Again you could have charged batts and get just a carrying case or get a PCC. or a mod/tornado. With a mod you just carry and extra battery and those batteries are cheap.

8. I don't want to have to use multiple vendors. That is a good way to over-spend.

See above.

If you're in your truck a lot, it would be good to have a passthrough or a mod that has a PT connection so you're not wasting batteries while traveling.

Not sure on the cartomizers. That seems like it would get expensive. I'm starting to settle on the refillable since it is so much cheaper. My main concern is just something small I can put in the pocket. Do the refillables come with caps?

The manuals are attractive. Not sure on the length. I would have to twist the battery on and off, but I could just put 2-4 manuals ready to go in my pocket. I can carry the box too in my pocket if I'm out and away from the vehicle and use it as a recharger instead of getting the car adapter. My work truck cigarette adapter doesn't work anyway.

The pre-filled carts at Volcano and Modern Vapor are cheap. I'm guessing the pre-filled carts can be refilled. I'd probably buy the pre-filled carts in bulk if that is the case and also refill them unless they're chewed.

I probably should just buy a kit and some pre-filled and see how it goes. Then, I can add a couple more bats and attys and buy some liquid in cool flavors. I'm sure I'm going to want to have flavors around for people to try if I go out to a bar. I really like the idea of Pina Colada and Whiskey/Coke flavors. If they had a Cabernet Sauvignon and Sam Adams flavor, I wouldn't have to drink at all. If I drink, it is for the taste. Though I'd imagine people would be more impressed with a fruit or coffee flavor.

it is really a question now of the short volcanos with the red led or going with the longer m402 or 902 at modern vapor with the blue led (i might throw in a stainless too). the shorts would fit one in a box fully assembled. i can get the manuals from modern vapor and carry them in the pocket with less worry of them going off. depends on how sensitive the autos are.

i'm guessing I wouldn't carry anything while I'm working since it would likely fall out unless in a case or box. I'd just grab a quick smoke and some water when I stop to change equipment.

Hi Henry --

I'm pretty new (vaping for about 6 days now) but I lurked here and read for most of the month of February. I, too, wanted to be absolutely sure I bought the exact right equipment for ME. Now that I'm nearly a week into this (and very happy) I realize the truth of what I read many times here: you might just need to jump in and try before you know what will work for you. Now I know that the 510 satisfies my "tinkerer" side (for its potential mods), plus is pretty great, if inconsistent, but I've recently ordered a different model for the side of me that wants convenience. Yes, it has a cartomizer, and yes (apparently) refills are possible!

My advice-- as a fellow newbie to all this-- is to jump in with your best guess, and tinker from there. On day four of this journey I was astonished to find my desire to smoke analogs just GONE. Of course YMMV, but go ahead and jump on in! :)

Cheers!

I checked out the Pure Smoker Ace. Those are nice compact manuals. Comes in black or stainless with a blue LED. I can get 4 batteries, the usb/wall charger, and a carry case (holds 2 batts, 2 atomz) for $60. I can then spend the rest on atomz and eliquid. I wouldn't have portable power, but I would have 4 ready to go.

It's a tough choice because I really don't know how it is all going to work for me, and I don't really have the cash to experiment. I tend to do that landscape equipment already.

HG,

Not sure on the cartomizers. That seems like it would get expensive.

They can be refilled also. You can get 2-3 hours on a cartomizer (carto) vs. 30-45minutes on a cartridge (cart).

I'm starting to settle on the refillable since it is so much cheaper. My main concern is just something small I can put in the pocket. Do the refillables come with caps?

All cartridges come with caps - you just have to save them and they come in a 5 pack carton - rather small. 1 1/2" x 2" x 1/2"

The manuals are attractive.

It's all I use except for a 'disposable' that I'm trying out - so far it's on it's 37th charge ;-) Package say more than 3 recharges.

Not sure on the length.

A regular 510 batt is 2 1/2", a mega that last twice as long (3-4 hours) is an inch longer.

I would have to twist the battery on and off, but I could just put 2-4 manuals ready to go in my pocket.

You could - but best to have a case - the button can get depressed in the pants pocket. Or you could carry two and keep the others in the truck. Depending on how far away the truck is or how often you'd have access.

I can carry the box too in my pocket if I'm out and away from the vehicle and use it as a recharger instead of getting the car adapter. My work truck cigarette adapter doesn't work anyway.

Ah.. yeah, then a PCC or a battery or two that last longer than work - Bartleby, Tornado/eGo.

The pre-filled carts at Volcano and Modern Vapor are cheap. I'm guessing the pre-filled carts can be refilled.

Yes. Few actually only used prefilleds exclusively - in fact, I don't know anyone who does although there have been a few that have inquired about doing it.

I'd probably buy the pre-filled carts in bulk if that is the case and also refill them unless they're chewed.

I think you'll want flat tips - still plastic but they are heavier and some round tips, the end piece will come off if chewed. However, you might be able to take off the end piece and fit a metal mouthpiece (my first link in the last post) but not sure if that would work and it would extend the length some but not much.

I probably should just buy a kit and some pre-filled and see how it goes.

Sometimes that's the best way rather than trying to figure every angle. You'll have it in your hand and will know what everyones referring to and then with that, other models, mods, etc. all make sense. That's why the 510 No box kit from cignot is so popular - it gets you started with a full kit at a really good price. Then what you find is that (for many here, including myself) you ended up getting a very good one - the most popular one here and imo, for good reasons - the atty is a real workhorse - low ohms makes more vapor and for most people starting they're looking at tobacco flavors and the 510 because of the more heat tends to enhance those flavors.

Later, if you wanted to try cartomizers, 901, 801 - you could get adapters for the 510 to 901, eg. and check out that atomizer (or cartomizer) and see how you like that. Some of the lighter flavors - fruit/berry/vanilla/chocolate/coconut etc. taste better in a cooler vape of the cartos or 901/801. And if you like that better, you could sell your 510 - you'd find no problem doing that in the classifieds and buy a Janty STick 801 based or a 901 or a KR8/carto kit. But again, having something in hand really helps with the understanding here.

Then, I can add a couple more bats and attys and buy some liquid in cool flavors. I'm sure I'm going to want to have flavors around for people to try if I go out to a bar.

Yeah, take some extra cartridges ;-) Once you get the hardware down, the flavors are what you really end up enjoying, even after you kick the smoking habit.

All above is possible. I'm a Decadent Vapour fan - and the cognac has got a real alcohol taste to it - too much for me actually, but their Habana Reserve, Absinthe, Black Currant (which taste like a good Cab to me) Ylang Ylang (that one surprised me) are all good flavors and the base is one of the highest quality in nic and VG/PG. And you pay for that. I'm done vaping cheap juice ;-) but everyone has to try it all and actually, some of them are good too.

With ejuice - do it in 3,5,6ml bottle samplers first.

Oh, ok... I'm reading along as I'm posting. Yep, you can go that way as well. I'm less familiar with those models. The M Series is known for pretty good battery life and flavor but not much on vapor. I have another disposable that is an M401 and the vapor is really weak but I'm used to the big vapor of a 510 mod.... so again, get something in your hand at first and go from there.

i can get the manuals from modern vapor and carry them in the pocket with less worry of them going off. depends on how sensitive the autos are.

Some autos activate on vacuum rather than sound and again, if you have the manuals in your shirt pocket they'll likely be ok - pants pockets, they could get activated.

i'm guessing I wouldn't carry anything while I'm working since it would likely fall out unless in a case or box. I'd just grab a quick smoke and some water when I stop to change equipment.

ya, i'm looking at vapor4life now. they have 1 bat/2 cart recharger case and a 4 bat/4 cart case. they seem small enough to carry in a pocket. all out of black. the kits come with a usb passthrough. i'd rather bypass the bypass for less cost. they have the regular vapor kings which i believe are the kr8. then, they have the shorts which i'm not sure what those are. the shorts are what i would want, but if they kr8s aren't as big as a 100, i wouldn't mind. not sure of the led colors either. they seem to have a good selection of flavors. they are a bit pricey on their cartz.

i'm going to have to keep searching for the right vendor and right price. the kr8s do have a decent battery life on them.

Hi Henry (again). I don't represent any vendors (in fact, due to supply issues in my short vaping life, I keep about 5 vendors in my top bookmarks) but dare I suggest you are now at the point of overthinking this? I researched the heck out of this site, and am still exploring options, but at some point it might be good to not worry about color or cost or size...and just jump in and start trying some models?

I think you might find the journey enjoyable. You are obviously a smart person! Jump in, experiment, and the fun will begin!

i got some good direction. the kr8 seems the way to go for ease of use, size, and life of the battery and cart.

i'll just start off with a kit with 2 batts, usb/wall charger, pcc case, 4 batt/4 cart case, some blanks, and some juice. i'll try an auto in black and a manual in stainless, both with blue led. then, i'll get 2 more batts, more blanks, usb car charger, and more juice if things go well.

i'll wait awhile for the vendors to get their inventories back up and might just wait for the supply problems to be sorted out. i'll keep poking around until i decide.

Just from experience V4L if you go the KR8 route is who I'd buy from. (No finacial connection). Some cartomizers have an underflavor that isn't too pleasant and V4L's cartomizers don't have that underflavor, imo. Not all taste it though, but there are a few threads on it to where it isn't just me. :) There is, in my experience, quite a difference in the length of time and the vapor that cartomizers put out. It's why I'm still vaping on 510's. But vapor wasn't an issue for you so you should be good. It's not like there isn't any vapor, there is, just not a lot on some flavors. The soft tip premium cartomizers are addressing that but they are too new to tell yet.

Those are all KR808D-1 batteries - the short ones, medium, and XL. The only designation separating them is the mAh rating. 180, 280, 380mAh, etc. For the 510 you have the regular battery and the 'mega' (now sometimes called the 'extended life battery' in some places.). If you go for the short ones, get the longest possible cutoff time (the time before you the battery cuts you off) I think they have 10 second cutoffs on the shorts so that should be good.

I don't know if they have PCC's that fit the longer batts, not that you couldn't just have them at hand fully charged.

Also the passthrough is touted as one of the best on the market - pretty sure it vapes at 5volts but again you'd have to check. And, no, you probably don't need one ;-) if you get the other stuff.

cartomizers are very refillable... and in my opinion very easy to refill.
I have a Vapor King/KR808 (cartomizer) and an EGO (510) (carts).
The ego gives me a more tasteful and pleasant vape but I refill more than I like... it's not a good "going out" vape for me... it's great for home... when I have 4-5 back ups in the queue.
The KR808 lasts a long time and it's not messy and it's very easy to take places...
