Hi. I'm a new vapor.

I am considering dropping the Green smoke battery I'm currently using and moving onto a 3 piece system.

I found a guy down the street that sells 2 piece PV's and juices. Anyhow. He's telling me the 3 piece is old technology and the way to go is the refillable 2 piece.

I thought I'd ask here before I made a decision on my next PV purchase. I'm sure he's trying to convince me to go with the 2 piece refillable cartomizer's because that is what he sells.

Is he telling me the truth that its better to go with the PV w/refillable cartomizers with the atty built in, rather than the 3 piece that I was thinking of buying ?

I'm no expert here, but I started with cartomizers (2) and just recently bought an atomizer + cartridge. I'm using mine on a boxmod (bigger battery, longer lasting, heavier hit then a standard e-cigarette). I think one advantage of using the three piece method is you can drip straight onto the atomizer. Many think that is a better tasting more consistent vape. If you're trying different flavors or switch flavors, you can also just drip them straight on the atomizer as opposed to soaking/wasting e-liquid in a cartomizer (2 piece model). From what I read, some think that the batting in the cartomizers alters the taste of different flavors.

In the end, it's all a matter of preference, but I wouldn't look at the 3 piece versions as yesterday's technology or obsolete. The cartomizers--especially if you buy prefilled as opposed to filling your own--are more convenient. One advantage of the three piece model, however, is it seems to offer more flexibility, like if you think you want to try "dripping". As long as it's a 510 battery though, you can start with 510 cartomizers and buy a 510 atomizer + cartridge later if you want to try that (both can be used on the same battery).

Haven't bought yet but am leaning towards the 501 after reading many many posts and reviews here and elsewhere. Great community here and although lots of info also lots of solid and honest research and I thank you all very much.

Edit: also looking at the Ego system because of the extended batt life.

Why not get a Buzz Pro and put a tank on it. then you'll have the equivalent of what every other one is and be able to do this.

Essentially what your asking is whether or not it's better to drip directly onto an atomizer (because traditional carts are USELESS) or use a refillable cartomizer. As a 2 year dripper, let me tell you that the switch to cartomizers (and ever better, tank mods) was the best vaping decision I ever made. Granted, personal preference accounts for 90% of this discussion, but I can't taste the difference between a carto and a traditional atomizer, especially when it has a tank. With carts you eliminate a lot of - imo - obnoxious problems, such as carrying a bottle of juice everywhere you go, and having to drip while driving. Also, while some argue that traditional atomizers are more consistent, I would argue that the carts I buy for my tank mod are far more consistent, as they produce the same vape all day, and I never worry about getting a dry hit that tastes like ash. However, personal preference, as I stated, is always key. I say try atomizers. If you like 'em, great. If not, stick with carts and get a tank mod (I recommend the liquinator from vaporescence.com). Personally, I've never had a better vape than from my provari (provape.com) with a liquinator filled with juice from kick bass vapors (kickbassvapor.com).

The cartridges that come with the three piece sets are the epic fail of vaping. However the atomizers that come in those sets are normally pretty good. So understand .. there is more than one way to use an atomizer.
The two piece set with cartomizers simply are hard to beat for their convience factor. I load up a box of cartos, toss them in an old Tic-Tac container, and I'm off for the weekend.

Dripping, of course :) Simply drip the liquid onto the coiled bridge on the atomizer (1-3 drops usually does it). It's much better than using the carts that come with standard atomizers.

so, the little thing that sticks out toward the top? dumb question- why is this better than using the carts? doesn't the juice from the carts get on the wick?

...the carts that came with, will certainly work...just not as well as other things...they don't hold a lot more than what you can drip, they are prone to scorching/burning...you can get a drip tip, drip 3 drops on the atty and take 5orso vapes and repeat...you can fill the cart with 10drops orso and maybe 15-20 puffs before needing to replace/refresh the cart...why...cause you don't wanna let it got dry as it will lose taste/vapor as it gets dryer and if let go dry, it will burn and havvta be tossed...I would tell ya to get some cartos, which you can put twice or more liquid in them and vape on.......

well, here is my story. I got a Volt(with cartos) and I like it ......BUT. No flavor. blah. wasting money on juice and getting aggravated. So, I got this T-rexx kit for $15 and with the carts/attys(once I got that GODAWFUL primer taste out) actually have a bit more flavor. I would still like more, but, its better. So, is it the atty/cart? or is it the T-rex? I will try this direct dripping. How much is safe to put in? It will get tedious refilling that often, but at least I can taste something.

...with direct dripping, you can only put 3 drops in....more than that will flood the atty, it won't make good flavor/vapor/throat hit and will leak all over...dripping(to me) is only good for tasting new flavors or doing a lot of changes in flavors...what you need to do is get some cartos, these combine the atty and cart into one unit and hold a considerable more amount of liquid...more of a no muss, no fuss method of vaping......
