Hi everyone, relatively new vapor. Today was the first day I used my PV pretty much the whole day, and only smoked 1 analog (compared to a pack a day).

I picked up a dry cough.. doesn't feel like I'm sick, but it doesn't seem to be going away neither.. or maybe I am getting sick?

Am I allergic to PG? I'm using Halo juices and they don't really state what levels their PG/VG ratio is.

Is this the sick thing everyone's talking about when quitting analogs? I haven't completely quit.. but today is the least i've smoked in 10 yrs. How long does this last?

Thanks everyone, kinda concerned at the moment. I am coughing up just a little bit of phlegm here and there..so maybe i'm sick? I feel fine outside the cough though

Note: i'm using 11mg nicotine. i do have asthma too, but I never use my inhaler unless I'm sick.. which means I haven't used one for about 2 yrs or so

Even though you are not quitting nicotine you are quitting smoking and you will have all sorts of respiratory changes in phlegm production, coughing and if asthma prone wheezing. Compare it to the cigarette quits you may have tried in the pas--it's not as hard as cold turkey but it is a big transition--and your body/lungs/throat even lips will have accomadated the analogs--even though they are poison.

don't worry about the cough etc. Just tough it out for a week, then come back and tell us how it went... in any event you won't regret it.

I got the same thing happening and it's been about two months now. Smoked for a LONG time for my age and not sure when it's going to get better myself. At least I'm not smoking cigs anymore and I'm glad for that at least.

oh wow a whole month? o_O geeze...i mean ya i want to get off analogs but if i'm going to keep this cough forever i don't know if that's a good tradeoff.. as stupid as it sounds anyway

If you have a constant dry cough, please rule out acid reflux/esophagus irritation. I know people will say they don't have any problems, but it can be a very silent issue. Trying something like Prilosec for a week might show a remarkable difference.

Yep, this doesn't always present as heartburn. Some folks actually only notice the effect of acid splashing on their vocal chords, causing them to "squawk" at odd moments. It can be very hard to diagnose. The good news is that, like NicLiq says, there are many over the counter treatments, but use them for a week as directed on the packaging to see if it helps. One dose is likely not enough to see an improvement.

ugh just to update..the cough isnt dry anymore...

coughing up mucus now..but my lungs are so tight..or the mucus is so tight that it takes a big cough to get it out..its pretty nasy when i do -.-

sigh the coughing had settled down but my throat and head hurt from coughing so much...

went to the doctors and got me some inhalers (which i havent used in yrs) and some antibiotics im assuming..

im wondering if this is really because i quit smoking...i know i dont have a cold because i never once had to blow my nose...

but yea this .... really sucks ;(

The good news is that it really does sound like you are experiencing some after effects of quitting smoking. Your lungs are starting to recover from the effects of the smoke. It stops the cilia in your lungs from being able to clear particles from your lung tissue. When you stop smoking, the cilia start up again, and there are years of tar and smoke particles built up in the deep parts of your lungs. The cough is your lungs way of clearing the junk out. The fact that the cough is now productive is a good sign. Your lung capacity will increase, so watch out! You might find yourself getting light headed from the extra oxygen (I'm not kidding, it happens.). Some people also find that their voices get louder as their lung capacity increases, so people might say you're talking to loud.

Going back to analogs might temporarily alleviate the symptoms by shutting down the cilia in your lungs, but the symptoms will just come back when you stop smoking again. I suggest you just ride it out and let your doctor know that this is what you think might be happening. He/she might recommend something with an expectorant in it to speed up the process. Most folks say it doesn't last more than a couple of weeks, and then it's done.

Good luck to you, I hope you feel better very soon. To your health! :toast:

I experienced dry coughs and sore throat when vaping VG, not PG. For PG, I have to live with some stomach irritation. Made tolerable by an occasional antacid.

HTH,
Dave

You've gotten some great advice and information. In addition to all that, if you are seriously concerned that you may be experiencing respiratory issues you should see a doctor. Your cough could be related to any or all of the previously mentioned factors but don't guess or speculate or self-diagnose. See a doctor.
