You can, but follow it with high alcohol content rubbing alcohol. Many polishes leave a residue.

Also, flip over your mousepad or build mat, and rub the pin against the rubber back... That works very well.

Don't see why not?

I like to use a 1/4" Red Cratex Rod to give a 510 Pin that new Out-of-the-Box look.

I use a pencil eraser

Just to concur with @classwife the standard contact cleaner for slot cars back in the day was a pink rubber eraser. It really did work better than anything else. I also had a friend who was in the US army chorus which is a very spit and polish job. One standard method of shining brass was to put a pencil in an electric drill and use the eraser to shine the brass.
