IMO - as one of the "Contest Junkies" here on ECF . . .

1) "Random Draws" are always the best and normally do not lead to any unpleasant discourse (And OH Boy - can a contest get heated) . . . Allow so many entries (1-10 as an example) of anything per person - then a Random draw for a "Winner" . . .

2) "Pick a Number" - or two or more per each entry - than do a random draw for a number and anyone who first picked that number or comes the closet to it then wins . . .

3) "Grid Style" has become very popular . . .You make a grid of numbers of 1- "Whatever" - people pick a number or group of numbers you set and then you have random draw selects one of those numbers that was selected and whoever picked that number would win . . .

4) "Like" Contest - This is the one "Contest" that really never ever goes over well - most "Like" contests - usually become "popularity" contest or people start "privately" campaigning for votes or ask/have their friends to do the campaigning for them . . . (THE WORST to Have ;) )

Just "My" Opinion and :2c: . . . :D

Pictures or quotes/comments/stories on a subject of the week with a random draw at the end are fun to do and read.

You can't go wrong on a contest as long as it's a random draw- everyone loves a contest and appreciates the vendors who have one- so THANK YOU in advance!!!

I second 36TB!

I particularly like the games with 1-10 entries (numbered) centered around a subject.
Quotes/pics are always fun and entertaining to look through!

To my mind, random drawing is the way to choose a winner -
'Likes' can turn in a popularity contest and even having the vendor choose by personal opinion can lead to some 'sour grapes' (or so I have seen from my limited experience).

In any case, thank you for thinking about sponsoring a contest!
Games are always appreciated!

I agree here. Have people post something interesting fitting a certain criteria. A joke, a funny picture, finish the sentence. Anything like that. Then do a random draw from everyone who posted.

I definitely have to agree with Uncle in that the person with the most "likes" wins... that is definitely the worst! I think a random draw is the best... Grids are popular, but, damn, they sure are a lot of work! I wouldn't wish that on anyone... You have people picking numbers, possibly in several rounds and someone has to keep track of all that..
Another type that confuses me a bit are the ones where you get say 10 entries. I find that people will put them in all at once and then forget about the thread entirely... If you don't enter all at once, it is easy enough to forget how many posts you have already made... especially for older minds, lol!

There are others that allow you to enter as often as you wish, but NOT double post... That would allow people who are around a lot to get more chances... That could be a bad thing, especially if you eliminate the no double posting requirement.
However, I think the whole point is to keep people coming back to your thread, reading and posting... Keep bumping it up to the top, keep your company in the minds of your customers and customers to be...

How do you do that? Well, it must be fun. There have been some threads that wrote stories or did mad libs or said something about a certain subject... A lot of those were a blast! The facebook contests and ones that require you to photoshop restrict your audience to the people who do those things... So, make it fun and easy enough and definitely random!
That's about all I have for now, I think it's great and it will bring a lot of attention to your fabulous new business! All the best to you!
