Converting new people to vaping...

Well I have been vaping since Friday and I was wondering if all of you could tell me how you explain to new people what vaping is exactly. I already converted over my hubbys aunt she ordered her kit after taking 2 drags off my joye 510. I told her the first charge is a killer..... Her I did not mind sharing with but really I am not going to let some random stranger use my 510. Hubby also has some friends intersted most of them hardcore would stand in a blizzard to smoke an analog. So how do you handle people in public, at work etc and explain it to them?

I just explain to them that it's an electronic cigarette, I explain to them the different parts and how they work, I've even taken it apart if I'm sitting somewhere explaining it. I also explain that You can use it to either replace your nicotine source or you can cut down to 0mg and that you can get 0mg juice. I haven't yet developed a "readers digest" version yet. I'm usually explaining it to people I know so I also email them the link to this forum and the suppliers I use.

I printed out a card I made up with this address on it. Some people did the same but put some suppliers addy's on the back and a short explanation on the front.

The best is to say as Jennee did, it's a Personal Vaporizing (P.V.) device, an Electronic cigarette. It can be used with or without nicotine and contains NO smoke..second hand or other. It's vapor made from Propylene Glycol (P.G)., flavor and nicotine (if used). Just like a fog machine or vaporizer. There is No tobacco and no other chemicals to harm you or me.

Then if you get the chance do a show and tell, take apart the E-Cig and be sure to point out where the liquid goes. Drinking E-liquid is awful! It's like eatting a cigar.

Here's some questions I get, Mostly from on-line friends I chat with:

The one question everyone seems to ask with a big wink: Can it be use for OTHER types of smokes?
NO! No kind of HERB goes in my P.V.! (besides, they contains oil..oil is not atty friendly). I am a child of the 60's but I grew up.

To answer the flavors are there to tempt kids..ask how many kids they know shop on-line with a credit card or have pay-pal? Besides they look goofy and are too much work for a kid. Niccorette comes in flavors, so does vodka. Get a grip.

Why don't you just quit or use a medical method?
They don't work..I tried.

Nope, not yet and most likely just the delivery devices will be.. Those made in China. They are many American mods being made and I can make my own liquid. So sue me!

They look like cigarettes and make people who quit want one!

Propylene Glycol is in Radiator fluid!
Ok..It's also in ice cream and toothpaste. It's in breathing devices they give to lung transplant patients. Yes, it is in radiator fluid..it keeps it from gunking up..it is NOT radiator fluid. So is water BTW

I doubt it, see, walking around and everything! Besides I am getting next to nothing as low as I vape at and most of that goes out in the vapor.

thanks both of you.... I had read on the forum about the toothpaste icecream etc that was one of his aunts worrys I also gave her spikeys vid to keep her busy until her's arrives. Really great idea about printing some cards with the forum and vendors I did not think of that.

Just a warning, most of my co-workers are about 8 or 10 years older than I am..I'm 44..and a lot of them smoke. When they ask and I show them the ecig..none of them knew about them except one non-smoker!..they treat me like a grandchild showing them a new toy-toy, even some of my closer buddies. They completely dismiss it as a gimmick, which is really a shame, especially since a lot are rolling now due to the cost of analogs. I wish they were interested, but I don't push it.

I was doing the RYO thing and let me tell you I do not miss it....was hubbys idea but somehow I was always the one rolling it... he actually had the balls to buy me a electric rolling machine for my birthday that took no brains just add tobacco and put a tube on the end of it my response was oh wow you decided to roll your own cigs for my birthday how nice of you

Yeah and people can do that with patches too. They can stick the whole box on their body. (Just another comeback for it)

Amen on that Sue! I got my son started, he's kind of wishy washy about it. But I tried! He has enough juice to stay happy for a long while (I ran in to a super closeout sale at Electronic ash!) He also has lots of P.G., nic and lorann's also so he can make his own.
I have a really close friend I want to get started. She has some breathing problems and needs to quit smoking now! But she is receptive to it. Others who are on the fence I just give cards. One lady at the store I go to bought one and likes it. She found her supplier on here from my card. I wish she would post though.
The way I look at is if they choose to try it, then maybe I saved a life!

I rarely see anyone, so not a problem for me. I did buy me sis a starter kit though, she's the one who told me about e-cigs, but she couldn't afford them at the time.

Sent hubby to school with all the information because if asked his response would be I don't know my wife bought it. We seem to be the only ones with the ecig in this area so I am sure a lot of people will be interested.

I bought a few disposables at runyandirect for $7 each. These are for friends or if someone wants to buy one off me to try.

Otherwise I just enjoy showing people the parts and how it works. Usually if they want to try it, I don't mind. I don't worry about germs too much and just use some hand sanitizer or just wipe it off.

Valerie, Do the disposables only use cartomisers or can you put your own juice in a cart? (I dislike prefilled except for Janty chocolate.) Maybe they come with flavor choices?
If I am going to get people to try e-cigs..it's not going to be with yucky juice!

hmm, this post has made me realize that I haven't seen another living soul except my kids and the USPS, UPS, and FedEx guys in two weeks...I definatly need to go do grocery shopping, just to get out of the house. (I've talked to other people, just not seen any in person)

No, they are pre-filled with 24mg either tobacco or menthol. I have a lot of flavors I like better as well, but for a person's first experience I think they may be more comfortable with those flavors anyway.

I haven't received them yet, so don't know if they come apart, and have the usual pieces or not. Will let you know after I examine one.

They're cheap enough to give to friends. I see them on other sites for $20 and up.

I said I'd talked to people, I just haven't seen anybody in person. Seeing real live walking around people is better than seeing real dead walking around people lol.
