Cool little tool for wrapping

I did a search and could find this vise on the site so I thought I would throw it up. It's the Excel Swivel Head Pin Vise.

It fits all my drill bits and comes with four different vise heads. I reverse the bit so the cutting end is in the vise and end up with a perfect mandrel. I picked it up off of ebay.

Fits nicely in my hand and makes it easy to wrap coils. I've been using it for 1/6, 5/64 and 3/32 bits.

I use a very similar pin vise. I push the end of the wire into one of the slots in the collet, pull the wire snug and twist. It works fantastic.

If you don't make your own coil build tools (and certainly not as cheap as a $5 screwdriver)... designed and dedicated coil wrap fixtures, like this one from Pyramid Vapors, are becoming less pricey every day.

Thanks Flux, I had not seen that one yet but have seen the one that looks like a puck.

That little vise works out well so far and fits in my coil kit nicely.

Don't blame you... I doubt I'll ever buy a ready-to-go one either Marc. For folks with no fabrication skills though... I suppose they're a smokin' deal.

Agreed, I've watch the tube videos and they look cool. I like the methods I learned here and they work well for me. It feels like building something from scratch with old school methods. Nothing beats tried and true and it keeps me busy and out of the wife's hair.
