Copper on Copper

Took about 5 mins w/a pc of scotchbrite to knock the chrome off. I think this is the copper layer & it'll look better after it darkens up some. Any way to speed that up?

an oxidizing agent would speed it up. H20.

that copper goes dark in a matter of days. I had to do some airhole patching and sanding on mine, and the layers are exposed. Anyway the "sandwich" layer gets real dark (and pretty red) real fast.

looks great, Fog. I think you'll like the darker/week old version alot.

Is that copper or brass? Google DIY Patina's for appropriate metal and you'll find lots of cool vids. I'm gonna do some brass by spraying it down with salt water and hanging it in a container with ammonia soaked paper towels.

i was wrong about the blowtorch but was fun to see! In fact all it does is to change the colour of it in the same way SS does - top of my RM2 is now a rather fetching purple colour! I'll post a pic as soon as HRH takes one!

- I'm pretty sure I only took mine down to the copper. That sounds fascinating unloaded & I'm lookingg forward to seeing the results! Please be sure & post up some pics!

I'm looking for more like an old penny color (to closer match the mods color) but that looks very cool Trunker!

Alice, Commie and i went thru a phase of doing the same thing to A7s a while back - but those are solid SS - not plated - Alice got some lovely results and i got the brass look i was after.

Probably is copper. The atty is brass but chrome plating commonly consists of copper plating first, then nickel, then chromium.

and melts at 1907 degrees C, which is why my blowtorch never touched it! If i didn't use it all the time for torching coils and such i'd give it to HRH and demand Creme brulees and meringues.
I have a funny feeling i already know her answer!
