As I patiently await the sub-ohm kits to come in, I already know that along with the kits I'll be ordering for my two current Grands, a brand new Tumbled Raw LP Grand shall be accompanying them in that USPS box.

I just received an un-engraved Copper Nemesis clone last week, and the way the patina is forming on it... oh boy is it ever gorgeous.

A Nemesis is NOT a Reo though. I really only vape my Reo's. :D However, my curiosity got the best of me and I had to see what a copper mod would be like. lol

Now I am absolutely obsessed with the idea of owning a real copper plated Reo. OBSESSED!!!

Imagine it though guys, a real copper plated Reo Grand....

I've looked into it this evening, and found this nice little blog:

High Quality (and Safe) Copper Plating

According to the blog, aluminum would first need to be nickel plated in order for copper plating to really adhere.

For a price, I know I could send it to a place in the UK and have them do it... but where's the fun in that? They do excellent work though, as seen in this pic:

Just starting this thread to see if anybody can chime in, and knows more than I do (nothing) about electroplating metals. It doesn't seem terribly difficult at all to do this at home... actually seems like a fun little project.

Apparently, it's not the most rugged or reliable layer to have on. Not to be used daily with wear and tear... but it can't be any worse than paint right? If you DIY it, is it something that can be maintained? Can you say, electroplate something once a year to give it a fresh coat?

Your thoughts? Wishful thinking? A Pipedream?

Hey Funk, in order to plate aluminum or any metal device, you will have to remove all plastics and other metals from the REO. If memory servers me correctly, aluminum will be taking a copper sulfate bath. I think u will have to remove the 510 connector thingy also. They sell kits that u can plate at home and the work real well. Pipe dream....not at all. Great idea!!!

surely you could seal the 510 both sides.. i dunno ... just throwing things .....

it looks excellent and i would also get it done, but only if it would last longer then paint, which it wont..so ....

i must be making to many coils... i have chipped paint on the corners around the vtop around the rda hole... i might aswell sand it down

You can always PM Robert and ask for a bare REO. He might finish it out for you when your done with plating too.

Never hurts to just ask. Then you know what your options are for your project.

That is a great idea. Get it raw before final assembly and send it back after plating.

Rob is sooooo hard to deal with though :(
