I thought I would give the old college try and make some ejuice for myself; especially since I heard it was a lot cheaper than buying pre-mixed ejuices. So I got out my spreadsheet and plugged in the numbers for a 30ml bottle of an apple ejuice. It came to $5.80 for all of the ingredients. It only costs $7.89 for a premixed version at madvapes. I know i am saving $2.09, but I am not sure it is worth the difference. What am I missing? In other posts I have heard some people say it only would cost about a dollar; but that seems unreasonable to me also.

If you start buying your DIY components in bulk quantity, you will find the cost greatly reduced. You also have to watch for sales of nic juice & flavorings.

As Banjo stated bulk buy and buy nic when a sale hits. My average cost per 10ml of 80%PG/20%VG at 12 mg/ml runs about $0.76. So a 30 ml bottle would be approximately $2.28. Add a $0.40 bottle and you have a total cost of $2.68. That's $5.21 savings on 30ml. Much more if you are buying pricier juices.

if you're buying ML bottles of flavoring from a vendor, most charge the same for flavoring and premixed nic juice. If you DIY with PA, Lorann's or similar and perfect your recipes, you can save quite a bit and up/down your nic as desired without losing flavor.

The real savings for me comes in to play when I order premixed juice that tastes awful and I have to flush it, or doctor it down to zero nic from adding so much PG/VG/flavoring to kill the nasties. Place a few bad orders and your out of $$$ pretty quickly between ML price and shipping costs.

If you have a vendor that has consistency from batch to batch, reasonable shipping prices, then premixed is the way to go, but mix and match with DIY to save even more. I keep perfumers apprentice and loranns on hand, along with extremevaping.com 's 50mg nic juice, so i'm good to go with DIY.

is that with the flavoring? I can get close to that without flavoring. It is when I add the flavor that the costs go up.

With flavoring. For example we will use a single flavor. I buy mine from One Stop DIY and w/coupojn code a 6ml bottle is $1.40. So .23/ml. I mix at around 10% so that may be the issue for you. For me flavor cost is .23 for 10 mls of juice. Big savings is to wait and find a nic sale on 100mg/ml nic at 30 to 50% off and buy 250 to 500mls. That is what will really drive cost out. Hope this helps

I have to agree with cleaver. Flavouring is the most expensive thing in DIY. On avg UI mix at around $0.38ml, pretty darn good all things considered. vendors selling at $1.00/ml = ripoff, yes they are around. A good price is $0.50/ml most honer around $0.60-0.65.
