Nic`d Up in Oklahoma!
Sure. I used CVS balls for a while, it works good in pro tanks BCC`s and rda`a since these can be not so picky. I learned that it does in fact help to boil it as there is no telling just by looking at it whats been done to it or how many contaminants its picked up along the way.

The only issue it with it is its inconsistency. You really have to unroll the whole ball and find the best spot(s) in the roll to use, there`s allot of waste, but its dirt cheap and easy available.

Iv pretty much switched to JOC due to its consistency, ease of use and its perfect parallel strands, but I have a whole bag of the CVS ball stuff in case I ever need it.

Any unbleached organic cotton will work and taste fine. As another member pointed out it is the consistency that makes certain cottons more desirable for wicking.

I'd say the most popular cotton is the Kohgendo organic cotton pads. You can see in the pad that all the fibers are running in the same direction. The stuff is extremely easy to work with.

Rayon is also another great fiber, but requires more attention when preparing. Then there's ramie, the most even fiber I've seen in my entire life.

I use cotton from Walmart. Cheapest bag of 100%cotton. Cotton is usually bleached with PEROXIDE. So you can pickup a bit of a peroxide flavor, boiling removes the taste. Also don't know why but boiling also seems to make it wick better. Haven't tried any make-up pads (Japan cotton) yet. Have 2 years worth of wick still in my bag of cotton, not bad for a buck.
