I have tried rebuilding vivi's, protanks, evods, bulli atomizer....no luck. coils work great, taste is HORRIBLE. I would torch the kanthal, wash/dry/torch the silica, same bad taste no matter what I did.

Had an insomnia episode last night. Started watching youtube videos on cotton wick---what else is there to watch at 1am! I was scared to try it because I was afraid I would just burn the wick. Wrapped my evod coil like normal, put it on my VV mod, ohm tested and dry burned it. Then I put the cotton wick in, added some juice......It. Was. AMAZING!!! The taste was great, no burnt metallic weirdness. This is something I could vape on all day. Except I need to drop the nic mg. Kinda buzzed myself! :)

I was really surprised as well. I go about four days before changing the wick (mostly because I drip multiple flavors...after four days it's time for a new one). I imagine you could go longer if you stick with one flavor (although darker juices will require rewicking sooner).

I've only burned through two wicks and that was by accident. No worries though...just roll another wick and I was up and running again in two minutes. No need to recoil either...just pull out the old wick, dry burn, and rewick. Done.

What were you using to rebuild before? I just started rebuilding coils using ekowool on evods/t3s and rsst and I am liking it so far. I am thinking about experimenting with different materials. Is there a particular type of cotton that should be used? have you tried ceramic wicks?

I started recoiling/wicking this weekend. I'm using Kanger Protanks and T3S's. made some 10 wrap 30 gauge Kanthal microcoils with cotton for the wicks. They work AWESOME! Using CVS brand organic cotton balls. Flavor and vapor production is amazing.

The coils are reading 1.8 ohm. Only had the first two not work for me (do to me not knowing what I was doing). The other four I've made so far have been perfect.

I was skeptical too, but cheesecloth is something I always have around for other uses, so I made a wick for my protank out of it - best wick I had ever used. Now I use that, flour sack towels or cotton candle wick (if I happen to have any.) I have used cotton balls but, I don't usually have them on hand and, cheesecloth is easier for me to work with and, get a uniform wick diameter from.

Try butcher's twine. I've tried yarn, and IMHO, the butcher's twine works FAR better. I haven't tried cotton balls, or cheese cloth yet, since I don't usually have cotton balls around, and I used my last bit of cheese cloth to strain yogurt for tzatziki. Next time I need to buy cheese cloth, I'll make sure to set some aside to test in my coils.

I am also a big fan of cotton wicks, I just use cotton balls for my wicks. I have been wanting to get some cheese cloth to try out but can't ever seem to find it when I am in walmart. My cotton ball wicks are working so good that finding cheesecloth is not really a big priority. They do kind of spoil you, I can now taste silica wicks and can't stand vaping from them anymore.

I had tried multiple types of silica....1mm, 2mm, 3mm, several different silica vendors.....all of them just had a weird funky taste. Even tried SS mesh. That was a total fail for me. I torched, washed, dried, everything.....cotton has been zero problems so far!!

I just bought regular old cotton balls at Walgreens. Nothing fancy! Haven't tried ceramic yet. I may try that if I get brave enough!

Just switched from Silica to cotton balls. I'm loving it! I'm still trying to get the right wick size for my RDA though. My first few attempts resulted in some hot spots on the coil (parts of it was glowing even when fully soaked) probably because the cotton wasn't making proper contact. My other builds found the wick blocking the air holes resulting to a tight draw.

I found that pulling and finding the grain on the cotton ball helps in building my wicks. I build the wick along the grain and they fluff right back nicely to the coil once installed.

I'm also trying to gauge how much juice I can drop into the wick. 4 drops seems right about the sweet spot. Any more and vapor production suffers.

Any of you RDA users? How do you know when to drop again on cotton? I guess getting a slight burnt taste means its too late?
