I want to start wrapping micro coils but i hate the vape that cotton gives me. Im using what seems to be advertised as 100% cotton but im not getting the same flavor as i would if I used silica or ekowool. Any suggestions? Should i boil the cotton longer? Should i bite the bullet and stick with the flavor it gives me? Help!

Too much cotton or too little cotton in the coil can affect the flavor. Took me a bit of trial and error before I found what works for me.

Make sure you drip a couple of drops on the cotton first to get it saturated first. If it's not fully saturated before you do the first fire, the cotton taste will linger.

Maybe try another brand of cotton? To me, different brands give me different results.

Cotton has a break in period, I find. I use CVS sterile cotton as well and love it, but it takes me a half hour or so of vaping to get rid of the cotton taste and it is easy to burn if you don't keep it soaked or run it too hot. Airflow as you drag is essential. Good luck and have fun!

I agree, it does take a little break in period when I started vaping cotton I was like what is this horrific taste! But eventually it got better and now the flavor is outstanding

I first tried 100% cotton balls straight out of the bag, but found break in time to long and a cottony taste. I then took a big handful and boiled them for 1/2 hour at a low boil, to leech out the cotton taste and any chemicals or bleaching left in from the processing. Dried them out and have a baggie full ready for use as needed. I dried one out with a hair dryer for immediate use, let the others drip dry, but ended up using the microwave at 30 second intervals till dry. Cotton tends to hold onto moisture and wouldn't completely dry.

When cotton says it is sterile, all that means that there is no life on the cotton. Nothing can live on that cotton. That does not man it was not treated or bleached or whatever. For many, there is no off taste to it. For me an many others, there are. I use the CVS Sterile Cotton. I boil my cotton 3 times.

1. Boil the cotton in a pot for 10 mins.
2. Take it off the heat, and fill with water so that it runs over. I do this for about 30 seconds to get any floating substances out.
3. Take out cotton and rinse with cold water.
4. Repeat this process 2 more times.
5. Use a hair dryer to dry the cotton.
6. When dry, wick away.

I do notice the flavor is much better (for me) this way. Some have told me that this process is a hassle. Sure, but it only takes an hour of my day, and after I boil and dry, it is going to be a long time, possibly years before I have to boil cotton again.

My cotton is turning brown after a day's use, or less. Is my voltage to high? bc the liquid doesn't taste burt, but my cotton wicks are compacted, brown, and don't hold as much after a day. Maybe I'm letting them get too dry before dripping again?
I really want to make cotton wicks work bc I find I enjoy microcoils and have not yet figured out a good way to get ecowool through them after wrapping.

Totaly agree with this. Less is more with cotton. I think I have too much in my IGO-L with a 1.1 microcoil atm. Still vapes nice. Need to experiment more as I just started using it.
