cotton wicks

I have a quick question regarding cotton wicks. I watched a few videos where people talk about "organic cotton", read a guide one making coils and what material to use for wicks, they talked about silica eko wool and cotton. This guide said to boil "cotton yarn".

here's my question, I bought some 100% cotton wool, is this good to go out of the bag, not good at all, or should I boil this?

It's difficult to say, since there are often different terms used for products in different countries.

If it looks like fluffy cotton, in balls or sheets, it should be fine. You might want to boil it first; there's a difference of opinion on that.

If it's more like a pad, and doesn't separate easily, you might be able to use it as a wick by cutting it into small strips. That's called "cotton gauze" here.

I've only been vaping for about two months and have only used clearomizers and tried a rda, so everything I tried came pre-wicked with silica. After finding some of the negative info about silica online I decided to try out cotton yarn because the cotton balls seems a little too complicated for a beginner like myself.

I'm the type of person that does as much research on something as possible before I decide to buy it, so it took me a couple weeks of researching to decide on which yarn to buy. I wanted to get organic cotton just cause thats what seemed better based on what other people had said on other forum threads.

The only actually organic cotton I could find that was sold in an actual physical store was Lion Brand Nature's Choice Organic Cotton Yarn, which I got at Joann's Fabrics, but its sold at some other fabric stores too. I tried to post a link for it, but the forum wouldn't let me. I just rewicked my iClear 30 with it after boiling it with filtered water for 20 minutes and then letting it dry. It seems like it tastes a lot better than with the silica.

As to what kind of cotton and wether or not to boil and all that, I don't think there has been any actual scientific tests done on what is better or healthier, so everything you find on here is just going to be people's preference and opinion based on trial and error. Because of all this I think when you're trying something new, just try it and see what you like best, cause until the FDA or some other experts actual test these e-cig materials, its all going to be personal preference
