Yes the kayfun style rba seems super easy to build. Every build I've made has worked well from the get go. I've been extremely happy with the figure 8 build. Super easy to set up using the mounting holes. I just slide the leads of the coil through the holes till the underside of the coil build is tangent to the edge of the platform. Tighten the screws down and then bend the coil up and over the air intake. My build is now at the perfect height above the air hole. adjust the length of the wick trim off excess ends, adjust wire wraps if necessary, saturate wick and she's good to go. Now I'm just playing with different gauges of wire to get to my desired ohm's.

I've been mainly using the supplied silica, seems to wick juice really well, that came with the Russian, have some 30 and 32 Kanthal that have been playing with, and even some SS mesh for a center wrap. May have to try some 28 awg, so that I can get more wraps while producing a 1.2-1.5ohm coil. Need to stay above 1 ohm since I'm driving the Russian with a Provari.

Will have to try the cotton but heard you had to change it out every day or so, which sounds like a pia to me. But then again, a month ago, thought building a coil sounded like something I wanted to stay away from, so thinking changes as may vape progresses. lmao.

Dice I got my provari hitting a 1.1 ohm microcoil at the moment it first measured 1 ohm before I fired it after wicking and adding ejuice it's at 1.1 have you tried to go lower on your build?

So I've used Silica and Ekowool in my Kayfuns and while they are fantastic, I recently went and bought some organic cotton balls. After re-wicking with cotton, it is hands down the best flavour and wicking I've experienced so far. My only concern though is the amount of pesticides and other processing chemicals which are used in the manufacturing of cotton. Although "organic" cotton is suppose to be pesticide free, I'm not entirely sure what other types of chemicals it may contain.

Maybe I'm over thinking this but just thought I'd get some views for anyone that may know a bit more about it than I do.

I use an organic cotton ball that's cleaned in hydrogen peroxide. Doesn't get more hypoallergenic than that. And, I agree, cotton in my Kayfun's is what brought RBA's up to top of the list for me, after months of fooling with different coil setups. It's like my juice came back to life for me. I got mine on Amazon, and may just sell my silica's. I get about four wicks from each cotton ball, so a single bag will last longer than I can quickly figure out....easily more than a year for me. So, also very inexpensive compared with replacement coils made by others, of any kind. I've tried mesh, cable, silica, ekowool, diapers, etc. and have found that the cotton wicked RBA's are hard to beat, imho. Go cotton and thank you for sharing! Power up and vape on!!

I've actually got the Provari to fire at .9ohms, was playing with an old PT coil trying the SS mesh coil on it. The smallest gauge I have right now is 30 awg and can get about a 4-5 wrap at ~1.2 ohms. thinking of trying some 28 awg so that I can get more wraps at a lower ohm. What are you using for your micro?

I always burn it a little and usually boil it the first day
I use Peaches & Creme from WM. 100% Cotton. Its not the pure white color because that means its been bleached. I get the off white, more of a light beige color, which is "natural" looking to me. Been using it for 8 months with no problems. I found the medical gauze to hard to work with. I've tried several "Natural" twines/yarns and find this to be the best for me. The "naturals" always had an after taste. The reason for boiling is to remove residues like "sizing" that is used in most manufacturing processes.

When I boil, I put a length, usually about 6 ft., in a 4 cup measuring cup. Fill it to about 3 cup level. Nuke for 20 min., rinse, re nuke for another 20 min. While rinsing I run cold water into the tilted cup until all the "used" water is forced out. This keeps the twine/yarn from absorbing anything that was released during the boiling.

EDIT: Before going to Peaches & Creme I was using http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/koch-industries-cotton-butchers-twine-370-ft-ball and it was also good. I'm using T3's and found the butchers-twine a little to thick but also didn't have an after taste. If you want to try the butchers-twine, call the store first. My local store had to get it from one of their other locations.

I think you may find that natural cotton is more white than you think. The beige/off white has been dyed.

you're using a device that heats a coiled piece of metal to the point of it turning bright red to vaporize a liquid.

So what does boiling the cotton do that the heated coil doesn't? That's an honest question. Maybe I'm missing something here?

If your coil is getting red and your using cotton wick then you are going to end up replacing it anyways.. when vaporizing the ejuice the coil doesnt get nearly as hot as when you dry burn (red coil). So essentially, 1. you aren't getting the cotton that hot if you plan on continuing to use it, 2. at the vaporization heat level you would be possibly vaping bleach or h2o2 or whatever else can be found in inorganic cotton or organic cotton, so yea you would be cleaning it... cleaning it right into your body lol..

PS@lucky ; 'It's submerged in a tank of juice it would be like trying to set a lake on fire! ' actually juice is flammable, put flame to a glass cup with ejuice in it and it will most likely catch fire.. it wont explode or anything but it does burn... if you have ever had your RDA turn into "torch-mode" on you then you know what im talking about ;)

A flame is much different than a glowing coil. Throw a glowing cigarette .... in a bucket of gas. It will go out. Hold a flame up to the same bucket of gas and..... whooosh!!!
