Made my first coils didn't look to bad and I got the ohms pretty to close to what I wanted I was overall pleased. Only problem was I used organic cotton balls to make the wick and it tasted horrible. I thought it might not be moist enough so I kept adding fluid waiting to see if I needed more once I knew for sure that wasn't the problem I fired it up again still horrible burnt taste. I tried to do if it would go away but it didn't. Any ideas why it might have been so bad

Sounds like your powered too high , organic cotton works great but less is more and keep it wet . Taper down your power setting if possible.
Too much cotton possibly. The cotton expands a bit when it gets wet. If it is too tight in the coil, it gets choked off and won't be wet enough. Try putting less in there. The cotton should slide when pulled gently while it is still dry.

Sound like I didn't properly prime wick and/or used to much. I'll try again tomorrow hopefully with better results
What size and ohms are you wrapping your coils to and how are you wicking your Patriot? One piece or two? Are you lining up the intake holes to the coils?
Ah, cool setup - as has been suggested, try with less cotton - sometimes, less IS more. Once you thread the cotton through, as Despraci and Robino1 mentioned, you want it to slide easily though the coil with just a TINY bit of "drag". And ONLY roll the tip up. If you roll the entire chunk of cotton up, it WILL be too much cotton.
The problem is most people wrap coils too tiny in diameter. The bigger the coil, the better it will wick. If you build a tiny coil (2.4mm or smaller), your wick setup will need to be more precise and harder to do. But try a bigger coil with less wraps and it will wick better, be easier to setup the wick, and taste better.
