when building with cotton, make sure to always thoroughly wash your hands with soap before even touching the cotton because if you don't, the natural oils from you fingertips will be absorbed into the cotton while rolling it to put in your coil and will give off a nasty taste when vaping.

Also never dry burn with cotton as it will catch on fire.

There are a few ways to use cotten for wicking. the most common is to run it threw the coil which can be a pita sometimes. Another that iv been liking with tight coils like micro coils is to wrap cotton around the coil, then fold the extra to one end leaving the inside and one end empty. this makes the coil work backwards and all the vape exits the open end of the coil. It allows for more juice to fit in the RDA as well. Look up riptripper dragon coil build on youtube for more info on what I'm talking about.

A few random pointers

Amazon.com: Maxim Hygiene Products Organic Cotton Balls -- 100 Cotton Balls: Beauty

That's the bag I bought. Organic is the way to go. Threw the entire bags worth into a pot and boiled it for 30 minutes, let them dry overnight, and now have well over a year supply of yummy cotton.

Easiest way to build with cotton is to wrap your coil first, and then thread the cotton through; some might disagree, but cotton is much softer and easier to thread than other wicking material.

Never dry burn on cotton, as it will just incinerate and vanish.

No need for flavor wicks (some users might disagree as well).

Lastly, less is more!

Is cotton safe to use on an evod? Do you use anything specific to thread the coil. I know nothing about drill bits btw.

Yes yes yes, this is my main use, for EVOD and PT2 heads. There are a few HUGE threads of ECF regarding this. Let me check for ya quick.

That thread will get you started. Start on the first page and work your way to the last. There is then another thread that has 200+ pages, so just try and read the one I posted first to grasp an understanding of it. There's an art to it!

Look into getting a coil jig. I'm sure they will be popping up left and right soon. They make building coils a lot easier. I also see how coil jigs could turn more people on to building coils as there is no need for drill bits or needles. just use the x size pole that came with your jig. To awnser your question the drill bit is to make sure your coils inner diameter is a specific size. X coils around x size bit or needle will equal x amount of ohm.

I want to jump in on this topic.

I recently bought 100% cotton balls. The package only states cotton and nothing else, so I emailed their customer service to ask about left-over bleaching agents and got this reply:

"There is hydrogen peroxide in the bleaching process but neutralizes when dries and the supplier regularly test the product to make sure this is the case."

Do I still need to boil these before wicking them in my rebuildables?

So I've been doing some thread reading and I hear some folks are using cotton in their coils instead of buying a whole new coil. Is this regular cotton like from a cotton ball? A regular cotton ball? Or cotton from a tank top ,or some type of special ecig cotton.. I feel stupid asking. .... but I would love to know.

If it makes it easier, you can use cotton yarn as well. I use a combination of both. (un dyed)

Cotton that has been bleached with hydrogen peroxide is absolutely fine to use unboiled. Hydrogen peroxide is used in treating drinking water, cleaning open wounds, and many other things. It decomposes into water and oxygen. Any traces left in the coton balls will have no effect. Hope this helps

Thanks! That just saved me the hassle of boiling/drying 300 cotton balls :D

I recently switched to cotton. Bought a bag of organic cotton balls from walmart for under $3.....unrolled, boiled 5 of them, dried, and have been using them since. I figure those 5 cotton balls will last me a few months (i switch wicks often in my igo-l).

In my opinion, the silica wicks cannot compare to cotton.

I have been using cotton since I first started rebuilding my Evod coils and now have moved into dripping. There is no better product for it IMO. Wicks very quickly and if you use the right amount you will never get a dry hit unless you allow the juice to run out. It does take a while to master the amount you need to use. I like the ease of nano coils but they are a little harder to learn than coiling around a bit and threading with cotton. Enjoy.

TY! I'll surely give it a try, doesn't seem hard at all to get the hang of.
