For me, this is a bad time of year....allergies. To top it off, the week before I started vaping I suffered a nasty upper respiratory infection which had me up all night with coughing fits. For this reason, I'm probably not the best person to answer your question. I did notice that I was coughing up phlegm for several days after I started vaping. From other posts I've read, this is normal. Apparently it is a sign that your body is ridding itself of some of the bad things cigarettes do to you. This only lasted about a week for me and wasn't really bad.

My allergy cough and sinus has been bad the last few days, but I have dealt with that my whole life. If the coughing is really unusual for you do as MN suggested and try pure VG juice and maybe a different flavor.

Good Luck.

Edit: Your nicotine (e-juice) will have a base of PG, VG or a mix of both... you may be having an allergic reaction to the e-juice you are using.
VG = Vegetable Glycerin
PG = Propylene Glycol

I only seem to have this problem when I'm vaping 100% PG or liquids that probably contain Diaceytl. Waffle and RY4 seem to do it to me most (which I do know those 2 have it in it). So I've given up 100% PG totally (not to mention it makes me all bumpy) and stopped buying anything that could possibly contain diacetyl, because like most. I opted for vaping vs smoking to be a little healthier.

Do a little trial between PG/VG and watch which nom noms you are vaping, some are harsher than others, esp those buttery noms.

NC...Prior to vaping I smoked 2 packs per day for 35 years. I never had any problems with coughs (excluding colds/flu). A few months after I started cutting down on the cigs and starting vaping I developed a "smokers cough". That continued for several months. I gradually cut down on the cigs and increased the vaping until I finally quit cigs completely. By then the "smokers cough" was gone. It's been over two months now and I still have occasional chest pains (more itching than anything else) and some light morning hacking. But my lung capacity has already increased substantially.

In short...it's probably just your lungs healing. Vape on.
I have gone from a pack and a half a day smoker to only smoking about 10 cigs a day. I plan on just vaping in about a week. I have been coughing alot more then I ever have doing this vaping and not smoking. Do any of you have this problem or had this problem before? I think becuase it is cleaning out my lungs but I am not sure.

This is slightly off topic but yet it isn't.

Over the summer I developed a horrible horrible cough, first reaction for the Dr. was to say smoking. However, ended up being whooping cough. I kept telling them it made no sense for me to go from being fine to coughing so hard I tore the cartilage in my rib cage.

That being said, smoking does paralyze the lungs and it makes sense that as you cut back and even stop smoking they will begin to function better and "clear" themselves out. However, you know your body and if it is telling you it is something more then follow your own gut instinct.

we went straight from smoking to vaping, no in between. i did cough now and then and even now if i vape a little too much i'll get a dry throat cough. But nothing major. The weirdest thing i've noticed, i can smell the carbonation when i open a can of diet coke. i have to let it "breathe"

*Note: i smoked for 37 years and ranged from 1-1 1/2 packs a day to a full blown 5 pack a day chain smoker off and on for much of the 37 years. Don't miss it at all.

it would be so nice that when we stop smoking our lungs were just automatically healed but unfortunately that isnt the case. I my self have been totally cig free for 55 days but had cut down for a couple weeks prior from 25-30cigs a day to 2 cigs a day and i had began to cough up specs of tar. Then once i started vaping i think it actually helped to clear the tar out and help my lungs heal. Vaping straight pg makes my throat and chest hurt and not much tar this isnt a good thing. When i vape straight vg or 50/50 they dont hurt and the tar comes out more. So moral of the story... chest pain bad...coughing good :) I am expecting this to be a very long process but they will be healed one day.
