I have a 75w temperature control sigelei with a Herkules tank. I had to pick up a Halo Triton because I was coughing so badly that I had to put my mod away. I was vaping 80/20 2mg nic with 30watts and 350temp.
What would be a proper setting so that it might lessen my coughing? I love my Triton but I would prefer to use the mod because I spent so much money on it!

80/20? If you really are vaping 80/20 no wonder you are coughing - but before I make any silly assumptions. Do you mean 20/80? That is 20PG/80VG? Because as you typed it it's 80PG/20VG.

As far as the temp goes, that's not really more than "slightly warm" to most people I know. So unless you have an overly sensitive throat to heat, then it would likely be your PG is way too high (If your PG really is 80)

How long have you been vaping? I only coughed the first few times I went subohm but I had been vaping for over a month beforehand, I've come to think that people that just came off of stinkies shouldn't be using big airflow tanks for the first month so their lungs can heal a bit first. All my friends that smoke have a massive cough attack when they try mine except non smokers and one friend that has been vaping on a evod for a couple months.

If that's not the case and you've been vaping a while there's a few things you can check.

How warm is your vape? When inhaling stick your tongue directly in the vapor stream, if it's burning your tongue it's probably too hot so turn down the temp/wattage.

Does your tank spit at all? Are you hearing crackling as your vaping? Sometimes it happens with some tanks doesn't even have to be loud just enough for some microdots of juice to hit your throat and make you cough.

Some people have a PG allergy, my mom does I vape almost 100% VG juices now and my vaping no longer bothered her, it wasn't severe but enough to tickle her throat, I started vaping outside when I am at my parents because of it.

Is your juice Diacetyl/Diketone free? I Immediately cough when it isn't and out of tonnes of brands I've tried there's only very few that don't have it and only one brand that every flavor hasn't bothered me (Goldseal).

There's so many possibilities you'll have to try solutions one by one until you find what works for you.

I have a 75w temperature control Sigelei with a Herkules tank. I had to pick up a Halo Triton because I was coughing so badly that I had to put my mod away. I was vaping 80/20 2mg nic with 30watts and 350temp.

I'm assuming the tank is a Herakles, not a Herkules, but please correct me if I got that wrong :)

You didn't mention you were getting obviously burnt hits so I am assuming that was not happening. I would still try a different coil head just to make sure there is nothing wrong with the one you're using.

If it was actually firing at 30 watts the Herakles was at the low end of its power range, but you could try lowering the watts and see what happens. You can't go too low, if you like the vape it's all good so try it and see.

The Halo Triton with the tank they come with is probably running at around 8 watts. If you like that vape there is no reason to use something that requires more watts and you have a few choices.

You could get a eGo to 510 adapter that screws on the Sigelei and use that to mount the Triton tank on the Sigelei. The Sigelei does 5 watts at the low end so it will be fine power wise. Your battery will also last a long time on a charge at 8 watts.

You could get a tank that runs at that power level and has a 510 connection built in like a Vision Vivi Nova or a host of similar tanks and use that on the Sigelei.

You could sell the Sigelei in the classifieds here and buy a less expensive, lower power mod like an iStick 20 watt for $30. That one actually comes with a eGo-510 adapter. It also has a built in battery.

Good luck with it.

I am sorry I didn't clarify, it is 80vg and 20pg :)

I quit cigarettes 10 years ago, I picked up vaping almost 5 months ago because my current boyfriend smokes and I didn't want to be tempted.
The temp doesn't seem warm to me, but I do notice that it spits a bit.
I was vaping with a vape pen first with this vape shop's juices with no problems but once I switched to the mod I started coughing about a week into using it. I am not sure if their juices are free of the aforementioned chemicals.
I think the airflow was wide open, I have to have someone take a look at it because I am not sure of the settings.
You are right there is alot of factors to look into, I just need to try to figure it out!

Hot spots, too much nic, your cooking your lungs, your PG/VG intolerant or your mod isnt calibrating and its cooking the juice....Take your pick.
I can see that I have quite alot of factors that I need to rule out.
I wonder if it could be the juice.. it could be that using a sub par juice wasn't obvious until I went to a mod...

Omg I was spelling it wrong, lol thank you! I don't know what the coils are, but I will find out.
I will dial it down, thank you for the tip about the wattage of the triton!

Those watts are too low for the Herakles! That tank and the coils the that go with it, are made for high powered lung hits. Are you using the .6 coils that came with the tank? If so, I suggest at least the 50w-60w range. The lower watts will make the vapor way too strong. I speak from personal experience. Once I raised the wattage, it was much easier to handle.

edit: I just noticed in another post, you mentioned it spits a bit. This is also a sign that the wattage is too low.

Thank you! What would you suggest for a lower wattage tank?

I'm assuming, that since you upgraded from a vape pen, you use mouth to lung hits. Based on that, the Nautilus mini or the Eleaf GS Air tanks would be an excellent choice. I'm leaning more towards the GS Air tanks though, because of the better airflow ranges and they are more affordable.

Oops, forgot to mention, if you still want to sub-ohm, then the Kanger Subtank line. Their .5 coils are better suited for the 30w. Still, with any sub-ohming tank, you have to use direct lung hits, otherwise coughing is a possibility.
What is the advantages of sub ohming? I know it's the newer technology, but how does that differ in the experience of vaping compared to mods that don't sub ohm?

Not much of a difference, more a personal preference. With the exception of better nicotine delivery, that is. Which reminds me, are you using the same nic level on the Herakles as you did the pens? That could also be a factor. Otherwise, it all depends on what you like. A lot of people claim that more vapor equals more flavor. But the same amount of people say that low wattage and higher builds, better flavor. And so, the debate goes on. I personally like the sub-ohming tanks and RDAs, because I have to use high vg, due to sensitivity to pg. The low ohm tanks can't handle my juices. And I find the clouds a bit therapeutic. They help me keep off the stinkies.

It just seems so overwhelming at times! I am trying to learn; at least I got my juices figured out for now. The Halo Triton I am using is pretty darn satisfying for a vape pen and alot more portable them my mod.

I think the Triton thing from Halo has an odd thread size. It doesn't work on anything else without a special adapter. If you like the MTL vape you get from it, you can find a LOT of (very inexpensive) tanks out there that will give you a similar (and arguably better) vape with a 510 threaded connection that will fit on just about any mod. If MTL is working for you it has it's advantages. Uses less juice, batteries go longer on a charge, etc. Sub-ohm vaping got it's start from necessity. A few years ago, there were no high powered regulated mods, only mechs. If you wanted a satisfying vape on a mech, you had to build low resistance RDA's or Kayfuns so that they could be fired by a single battery. Now, the only upside sub-ohm vaping is the huge clouds. I like the clouds for the release factor, but I puff on a Kayfun @ 20W most of the day to conserve juice.
