Coughing Silica VS Cotton

I've been vaping for about 3 years now, i'm using an ego type battery with CE4 cartos. I've noticed that I'll get bouts of coughing and have tried everything from dropping my favorite flavor (cinnamon) to going all VG and PG instead of mixing my normal 70PG 30VG. I can't pinpoint what is causing it to start and stop. Recently I noticed one of my cartos which produced really good flavor and a smooth smoking experience had a "fluffier" wick. I then found an article on cotton vs silica and i'm now wondering if silica was producing my coughing bouts. I've changed out both my cartos to the "fluffy" wick cartos that I have but i'm wondering if anyone knows how to tell for sure the difference between cotton and silica wicks? I'm assuming the cotton wicks are fluffier and softer and the silica wicks are the thin stiffer ones. But does anyone know a sure fire way of testing or telling which is which, and unfortunately when I buy my cartos, that usually is not in the description especially when I get them from a China seller in bulk.

Hello, well easy test is cotton burns and silica doesn't. I prefer cotton and use it in all my rebuilds from pt, rda, and KFL.

Hope someone else can offer another test.
