Okay, I have had my Smokestik kit for about a month. Loved the device, hated the flavors. I am a menthol smoker, and their menthol made me cough so badly, I ordered Smokestiks non menthol to replace them. No coughing, but still, just like the menthol, bad taste.

On utube I learned that I could refill my cartos, so I ordered some menthol juice from Halo, didn't make me cough, but still, tasted pretty bad, like medicine or something. I was able to use it all with no problems, but couldn't get over the disappointing flavor. Would LOVE for someone to direct me to a really good menthol. I know it won't be like the analogs, but I HATE that sweetish bubble gum flavor that seems to be in menthol vapes.

So last week I ordered a sample kit from awesomevapors. USA, rum, tobacco, menthol, pinacolada, pineapple, RY4, Camel.

My new menthol that came in the kit made me cough (but not too much), and though it didn't have the bubble gum undertaste, it tastes kinda like pinesol smells, more piney than menthol. All of my new flavors make me cough horribly except RY4, rum, and tobacco. HOWEVER, those flavors aren't giving me much of a throat hit at all. Doesn't feel like real "smoking" without the throat hit.

Am I doing something wrong? It seems crazy that all these flavors from three different companies are making me cough and often actually cause me some pain. I'm not knocking Halo, Smokestik or Awesome vapors, it's obviously something with me. They actually HURT when I inhale. Sometimes after awhile, I don't know, maybe after the juice settles, seems like they don't hurt any more, but still cause some coughing. Usually I fill and smoke. Should I be letting them sit and "steep" or something? My original pre-filled carts from Smokestik also caused pain and coughing with the menthol, but not the regulars,so I don't know if steeping is the issue, since they, being pre-filled had obviously steeped. I can't afford to spend alot of money to keep trying brands, so I'm going to have to vape and cough until I use all this stuff up.

Incidentally, I don't know if it's relevant, but I'm buying 18mg nic.
Don't want to go back to analogs, but this is driving me crazy.
Coughing and pain seem to be worse on the ones I'm refilling as compared to my non-menthol from Smokestik, though it was so bad with their menthol flavor, I couldn't smoke them all.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I used to be (back in the day) a heavy menthol smoker, and I agree many menthols have that "wrigley's taste". Bleh. The two I've found so far I like are both from Totally Wicked, their "salem" and oddly enough "Mint chocolate chip". The Salem is pretty refreshingly menthol and doesn't burn my throat out, and the Mint Chocolate Chip though not menthol has a very refreshing mint vape, sort of like Ice cream parlor satisfaction.

How much PG is in the flavors you've tried? A high amount of PG can result in a hard throat hit that'll make you cough. I know you've already tried several vendors, but I'm going to suggest that you try VaporBomb or Gourmet Vapor.

I admit I do not know the PG content, but I'll see if I can find out. Read here on the forum that dehydration could cause symptoms like mine, so I'm trying to drink more water and see if that helps.
Thanks!

I'm a (no was) a menthol smoker as well. I have tried several menthols and they all have their good and bad points. I found I like Creme De Mint with a little cinnamon. Try mixxing a flavor or two as well. I throw in a little chocolate and it tones down some of the menthols that I did not like.
Also....it DOES matter if you let some of these juices steep. (Sit for a while-do a search). What was real strong a week ago, right after I got the juice, is not as strong today...
Good luck and glad to have you here, it's a great place to learn and great, great support here from those who have been there and done that.

also it could depend on how you inhale. are you taking a drag and holding it in the mouth then inhaling or just going straight from the pv to the inhale?

definitely! inhaling directly into the lungs gives me a harsh throat burn on a long drag. Drawing a "mouthful" of vapor (as you would to blow smoke rings) THEN inhaling is much smoother and allows the flavor of the juice to come through better.
