Why am I having this problem? This vaping thing seems to make me cough more than smoking. Is it the strength of the njoy menthol cartomizers. The package says 1.8% nicotine by volume. It also says regular. I still smoke menthol "lights" and when I take a hit off of the NJOY NPRO it makes me cough very bad. Is there something I can do to fix this? Buy different juice and blank cartomizers? If so any suggestions on what and where to buy? Any help would be appreaciated.

It could be one of several things. It could be that the nicotine concentration is more than you're used to. It could also be that the e-liquid inside the NJOY cartomizers is PG-based and that PG-based liquids irritate your particular throat. I would try to find a VG-based cartomizer in a lower-nicotine level. I think the NPro is a model 4081 and is also compatible with the DSE103. So you can search online for any 4081 or DSE103 cartomizer that fits the bill. You may want to confirm that the NPro is compatible with the 4081 and DSE103 in case I didn't get my facts straight. I hope you get past the throat problem and find what works best for you.

I am fairly new but I had the same issue when I started. I am sure more experienced vapers will be along with better suggestions in a few minutes. However, I did learn that I had to drink lots of water. That seemed to help me. I also ordered juice at a lower nicotine level. 18 mg and now after two weeks of vaping the cough has gone away.

Throat hit is what is making you cough. It also could be that you are trying to vape a dry atty. Are you getting lots of vaper? If not, maybe your cartomizer isn't sufficiently saturated. Did you get an atomizer with your Npro? Try dripping 2 or 3 drops into the atomizer to wet the bridge and see if that makes the vapor smoother. You also could have a cartomizer issue. According to some here on the board it's possible to get a bad cartomizer that doesn't feed the juice well.

The other thing could be PG juice. 100% PG can be harsh to some people. I've experienced that. Try some 100% VG juice and see if that helps. VG is smooth and doesn't make me cough. Straight PG will irritate my throat and lungs after a while and I have to change. A good compromise is a 50/50 mix, which is the most popular according to the polls on this board.

You mean you are coughing from the vapour itself? Could be liquid is too strong possibly, or something in the flavouring that doesn't agree with you. If you are tasting burning that can make you cough, if the carto filling is starting to burn for example.

Or are you talking about a more persistent smokers cough, like when you first wake up? I can remember I had quite a bad cough (with all sorts of crap being coughed up as the lungs cleared) when I first made the switch properly. It passed with time.

I had the NJoy mini cigarette looking one.. The cartridge in it is (or was) TINY and it's very easy to end up vaping a dry atomizer. When you vape something dry it'll burn and hurt. The only way I ever got decent performance was to drop liquid directly onto the atomizer.. I couldn't always get the atomizers to last, either, but some of them were surprisingly durable and the lady at NJoy was very nice about sending replacements. The batteries were good for being a miniature device. .

I don't think NJoy cartomizers are any good.. the ones that come in a bottle... I don't think they are. Never tried them because never heard anything good about 'em.

I never had a problem with their juice being harsh but like everyone says I've definitely heard many times that certain people are sensitive to PG. I've only had juice that was harsh one time - was a cheap dekang "pina colada" that tasted horrible and burned the piss out of me!!! (I vape their other flavors without issue) But it was vapeable if I would draw vapor into my mouth and french inhale it (for some reason)

After you've been away from smoking for awhile you'll have some symptoms as the lungs clean themselves and nerve endings grow back in the throat. It's a great experience, detoxifying.. The years of the built up marinade of chemicals will be leeching out of your gums for awhile, so you might want to carry extra mints and brush your teeth more often..

That is what smokers cough is, smoking kills the little cleaning hairs in the lungs, so smokers are constantly coughing themselves to death trying to bring up all of that tar and junk and 90% of it just will not come out. Once they start coming back (if you're lucky enough that they do, and I think most people are) you will be able to bring up all of the tar and that won't last forever

I had an issue soon after I started and I think I just irritated the hell out of my lungs with bad technique. Took a couple of weeks at least to resolve. I just vaped through it, but it was really, really tough.

I know that when most people start smoking, it causes them a-lot of pain until the smoke has killed enough nerve endings..

I bet you had this, like a-lot of people who start vaping.. Common Withdrawal Symptoms After You Quit Smoking - QuitSmokingSupport.com

"Physical Symptoms.
During the quitting process people should consider the following physical symptoms of withdrawal as they were recuperating from a disease and treat them accordingly as they would any physical symptoms:

Tingling in the hands and feet
Sweating
Intestinal disorders (cramps, nausea)
Headache
Cold symptoms as the lungs begin to clear (sore throats, coughing, and other signs of colds and respiratory problem)"

Go here:

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and look for "Why vapor makes you cough and smoke doesn't."

Once you read this you'll understand why you'll cough until those little hairs grow back.

At least I agree with this theory.:2c:

Nice article!!
How does Smoking Affect the Cilia?
Those are the little hairs I was talking about!!!

Dig this!! Joel's Library - Smoking's Impact on the Lungs
If you go about a third of the way down you can see actual illustrations of what happens in

In the article you posted it says "In fact, smoking eventually destroys the cilia, which may then be displaced by an excessive number of basal cells, or cancerous squamous cells. Over time, these cells may become cancerous. They may also become rogue, escaping through lung tissue and invading other parts of the body." .. you can see a really interesting illustration of that in the link I posted
