Couple basic questions about 510 atomizers

I just ordered my first 3.7v box mod and some LR 510 atomizers. I haven't used atomizers before (I'm definitely a KR808D-1 kind of person right now), but I figured I might as well try out something new for fun!

I was wondering if anyone had any maintenance tips for atomizers to get the best life out of them. Do I need to clean them before the first use? How should I clean them? How often should I do this?

It's pretty basic stuff, but I don't want to screw anything up!

hello. yes, when you get them you need to blow out the primer that comes in them. i then rinse mine under hot water for a sec to get the rest of the primer out. let it dry or do a short dry burn if you want to use it right away. then prime it with a few drops of liquid. it's best to blow out the excess juice at night. I personally don't clean mine until i see a drop in performance. when i do, i heat up some distilled water in the microwave and let the atty sit in it for at least ten min. blow out the excess water and let dry. then reprime. I've found that the more i mess with attys, the more problems i have, so i keep it to a minimum

I really like the cisco-spec LR510 2ohm atties from AvidVaper.com. No primer, great taste, and work well on my 3.7v Reo Mini. I just prime with a couple of drops of liquid, "squonk" the juice bottle, and vape away.

Since most atties do come in primer, you'll definitely want to blow them out before using them (you'll quickly find which ones don't come with primer -- when you blow them out, nothing will come out). Also, especially with LR atties, always keep them nice and wet while vaping. It's pretty easy to pop a 1.5ohm atty by dry burning it too long.

Primer doesn't taste great, but you can vape through it (10 good puffs and it starts to fade). If you do clean it out, be sure to put a good 3-5 drops right in the atomizer (some will leak out the back, that's fine) to make sure the wick is nice and wet again(don't have to do that if you don't clean out the primer).

Only thing I can really say is... and this is true for pretty much everything, don't chain vape a single atty (carry two PVs if you want to do that). By chain I mean puff, exhale, puff, exhale... repeat for minutes. It does get hot and if you don't give it time to cool down you can burn the atty (which will lead to a nasty burnt taste, permanently). I generally go with 3-4 good puffs, wait 30 seconds, repeat (or, instead of wait, use the other PV in my pocket).

You can clean them (some people use hot water, some soak in alcohol, etc) every so often. Basically when it starts to perform poorly (depends on juice, could be a few days, could be weeks) either clean it out or toss it. If you use alcohol be sure to wait at least 24 hours before using it (so the alcohol dries completely, if it still smells it's not dry).
