Couple things

So I was trying to help a friend out who ordered a 510 kit. I knew he had just thrown his last pack of analogs out and was fiending pretty bad. I lent him one of my 510's with a usb charger and some carts.

Here's the prob. When he got his kit and returned my 510, it had a funny metallic taste to it. So I took a look in the atomizer and it's missing the bottom plate, as in I can see the wires that connect the heating mechanism to the connector. WTH??? I don't think he was screwing with it, can you overheat and melt it off?

I'll talk to him once I have a better idea of what happened, (he's a good friend and I don't want him to screw up his own stuff either). That's not really the issue, I just want to know what happened.

Any ideas?

Only time I have ever heard of this is when the modders remove it on purpose. I really do not think they can just fall off. Was it the metal one, rectangle shape or was it the washer, circular shape?

Sorry to hear about your atty......But unfortunately i think your friend messed around with the attys.....Since i have never heard of an atty bottom falling out by it self.....The bottom has to be physically removed,with some strength i might add

This is what I thought. I have read a boat load in the modders forum and I just could not get to-----it melted or fell out.

Sounds to me like maybe you are seeing the interior wicking (it sticks out from the bridge some times. New 510 users mistake this for other things (cartridge filler) and usually try to pull it out right (and can ruin your atty).

Some of the clone atomizers have a supplemental wicking that runs from the bridge to the coil and so what you're seeing may have silica wicking thread out of place and sitting near or mashed under the pot. That can look like a wire to someone who doesn't understand the make-up of the interior of an atomizer.

That can get scorched and taste bad, especially with an inexperienced user (who cooks or burns the wicking material by not keeping the atomizer wet enough).

Try some PGA (EverClear) or boil it in some water (microwave it in a glass dish with a few inches of water over the top of it). Blow out liquid, dry well (PGA will evaporate, so no real drying time) and make sure to prime well with your e-liquid on the atty bridge (about 4 drops). See if the taste improves.

If not, you might want to try to remove only what is sticking out and see if it improves. If not, remove all the wick and use it for dripping only (it is heating up, right?).

Worse case, you go spend $8 to buy a new one
