I have read that the plating wears off quickly, but I wouldn't know from experience. The reviews made me purchase the stainless version. You could purchase a wrap to protect it.
They are just as usable as the SS versions. If you want the finish to last longer, getting a wrap is suggested.
I ordered a Vamo V3 about a week ago from fasttech; It's already been shipped by the vendor. I ordered the brass instead of the stainless..Did I make a mistake??
I did something similar. I ordered the SS kit with the Euro power plug. There website keeps cache of what you look at, and it's very easy to make a mistake because it doesn't clear out when you order.
My advice is to first create a ticket. Then, place an order for the one you want.
Don't open the Brass package when you get it, and send it back for a Refund.
I had a stainless v2 and it's pretty awesome. Order a stainless and gift the brass one to a friend.

From the pictures I've seen it just covers them, floating over the grooves. I don't have one. I want to keep the grooves so I'm actually planning on painting mine with nail polish.
You could DIY if you're so inclined. Cutting out the holes is a little fiddly though. Personally, I'd rather pay the $20 to have someone else do it.
Oh, should have been more specific, my bad. I'll be making mine to stop just before the 'fire' button and end before the bottom cap to allow battery access. I plan on only using it in the long mode with 18650s. The paracord wrap wont be too complex; just enough to cover the portion where it'll be held the most to help avoid the plated finish from peeling and scratches.

Just spray it with Plasti-Dip. Costs about $6 a can and you will have enough to coat about 20 Vamos. Comes in all colors and peels right off when you want to remove it. Available at all hardware store. Super durable!
Personally, I like the chrome! It is hard as a rock, should never tarnish and looks great! No fingerprints anywhere! I didn't get the SS cause it is a much softer metal and prone to scratches and dings. I have dropped my Vamo many times and no scratches anywhere! Don't be concerned about the grooves. You really don't notice them regardless of what others say.
Ill second the plastidip its durable and couldn't be easier to remove if you want. I've pained everything from tools to car rims to entire cars with this stuff!!!
