My card was flagged for fraud after ordering from alien Visions (my favorite juice) this weekend. Someone bought a car rental in England and my card was charged $1800. The bank is working on it, but it's quite a scare.

Use safepass or a gift card if possible folks! Be safe!

I just wanted to give y'all a heads-up!

AVE isn't the only vendor affected. Check out the thread below.

Hmmmm. You got an online order in over the weekend?

As far as I know, AVE closed down their online ordering prior to this due to CC processing issues.:glare:

Staying Closed for a Few Days

Gwen

Just to clarify:

I ordered from AVE on 03-08, which was last weekend. I should have been more clear on that.

My order arrived on Monday, 03-11.

The fraud appeared on my statement on Monday, 03-18.

(A compressed work-week + finals week can warp one's sense of what a "weekend" is.)

In spite of the specific dates, vapers all around should be aware of recent fraud that seems to originate from various suppliers' payment systems —not just AVE.

My main point is to raise awareness in the "New Members Forum" so new vapers can take steps to protect themselves. Many banks offer safe-pass features, or Visa gift-cards which can prevent such fraud. I strongly recommend using these services.

—and Please continue to order from great suppliers like AVE in spite of the baddies.

Lol. I want to live on your time bro. Last weekend was the 16/17th. Maybe I'm living in wonderland where time is different. Nevertheless, I was hit too. I think it from my purchase on 2/22 though. That was the last time I ordered.

Well this is scary!!!!!! I'm new and want to try most of everything, but I don't want anyone hacking my account.

It is scary, but there are things we can do to prevent this kind of fraud. If you use a debit card at Bank of America you can set spending limits on your card. If you have a credit card, you can use shopsafe or safepass to create a temporary CC number with a specific limit and expiration date. Also you can buy gift cards (though it's a hassle) and use those for juice shopping.

Starting to think someone planted a Key logger on Alien's system.

LOL, you know what a key logger does right ?? It logs the keystrokes typed. They are not typing in the credit card info the customer is. But yes someone must have access to their database of CC #s. That sucks I've ordered from them over a dozen times but not in a few months.

Thanks for the heads-up!

So far only ordered from Johnson Creek, RTD, Exhale and Discount Vapors and no fraud. All 4 of those listed have set e-commerce payment systems. The rest/others I have seen don't have any info on theirs and, honestly, it's why I haven't ordered from them. I'm really paranoid about online purchases and check my account up to 4 times daily to monitor it.

I have a separate credit card that is actually a debit card that i ONLY use for online purchases.

I transfer just the exact amount of money I need to it to make a purchase.

Good idea. I haven't bought much online but if I'm going to continue with this I'd better get used to on-line purchases. I have a travel account (separate debit card) I can use. It isn't linked to overdraft protection or any other auto pay thing the banking industry's thought up. I've bought only from Volcano so far with no problems.

This is truly terrifying. I just placed my first orders today with Mount Baker Vapors, MyVaporStore and LiteECig. I use one of two excellent pre-paid cards however, the American Express standard pre-paid card (not the bluebird) and the NetSpend card. I recommend both highly. Both cards were free, and have very few fees. The Amex only charges you on the ATM withdrawals and the first two are free, so I would highly recommend both. The NetSpend card has a 15,000 limit. The Amex is 2,500.

I only put the amount on the cards that I intend to spend online. So if anyone tries to commit fraud with these, they can just about order a pizza and a 6 pack.

Also, I highly recommend adding text alerts to any card you have. I know immediately when something has been purchased, plus it sends the balance and the vendor name. I also gets texts when things are denied, or someone tries to access my online account. My text history also serves as my transaction history for when I forget what I've spent.

I have had 2 instances of fraud on 2 different credit cards, both having been used for Alien Visions. The first was for over $800 for a cable company in Jersey, the 2nd was for Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The funny thing about the 2nd fraud is that the item was actually delivered to my home. The problem is that I, nor anybody else in my house, ever ordered anything from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. When I spoke with BB&B, they told me that there was no phone or email associated with the order, and their fraud dept is looking into it. This whole situation SUCKS ...!!
