Crown leaking through the top

The crown was my go to tank before I got the Rafale and mine only ever leaked once when i filled from the top and it was because I left my air flow open by mistake when filling, having the airflow closed when filling should stop the leaking, at least it did for me 
I'll assume you're using a drop in coil since you said it's your first day using it.
I never close the afc to fill. My 3 Crowns don't leak top filling with the afc open. YMMV
Juice out the top of a new tank means it drizzled down the air tube while you filled it or it's getting past an o-ring or the coil isn't screwed down tight or is cross threaded so it's jammed and just feels like it's tight.
One of mine was leaky the first time I used it. One of the o-rings was twisted.
I straightened it out and it stopped leaking.

Yeah apparently that was the reason. I don't have that tank, but most top fills weep a bit through the air holes on filling, and all of them leak if the top isn't on tight.
