I've fixed two buttons now that were really catchy/crunchy. Now they're smooth as silk.
The issue is the machining marks on the center shaft and the ring it goes through. They're both horizontal lines, so they catch each other. That's the crunch you're feeling when you press the button.
To fix, simply sand each part down with vertical strokes. Use 600 grit, or 1000, then 1200, and 2000 if you like. Test the action after sanding, if it feels smooth, go onto cleaning/polishing. I like to use Nevr Dull to clean the parts, then Mothers Mag/Alu polish to finish it off.
Once doing this, I guarantee it'll feel much better. My Caravela clone button feels like a premium product now.
