...I agree w/asdaq, I think compression between a rod and a pipe that has been cut in half (or so) would work well.
...A person might even lay a bit of felt atop the coin before pressing (with a big vise).
...I would think this would also work for a number of concho styles (leather working decorative metal elements), but I have been reading the battery mod pages, and haven't read through these pages yet to know if problems with this exist (like poor metal quality conchos, etc).
...Practicing on another less valuable and comparable coin is a good idea, but you already know that...
...I've taken small hinges and hammered them to a similar roundness like this, using a cut pipe and hammering them into the inside of the pipe, but I don't think that is a better plan at all...
