I just got in a batch of 24mg reduced PG from Johnson Creek and I'm waiting on an order of some 36mg menthol from Vermont Vapor. According to Adam at VV their menthol is about 10% PG. He said they tried using more VG but that the menthol wouldn't stay dissolved so they had to add some PG back in.

My basic question is: If I want to cut the nicotene content of either juice I'm guessing I'll have to use PG - since both formulas probably have the max amount of VG now.... sound right?

Thanks

You can cut the nic by using no nic vg and pga(pure grain alcohol, like everclear):) There is an e juice calculator over in diy liquid forum for the calculations:( Nice avatar banjoman:)

I've wondered about PGA, does it increase the throat hit like I've read? I've thought about using 80 proof vodka just to try it. Does the proof need to be as high as everclear...how bout 100 proof vodka or spiced rum for a little flavor kick??

Sugar is bad for attys8-o Highest proof vodka you can get if everclear isn't available:) I use vg to cut nic and get more vapor.:) The alcohol will improve the throat hit because vg is very smooth:)
You could also order your flavor in 0 nic because using the vg alone will decrease the flavor

I'd say Big Texas has it right. Lower or zero nic liq, same flavor. I've never mixed over 50% VG...think I read somewhere that too much VG can gunk up the atty; not to mention diluting the flavor. Just curious why you went with the reduced PG...allergic reaction?

Originally I ordered PG 24mg Arctic Mint from JC. The flavor was fine but exhale vapor was non-existent. After I'd ordered the reduced PG (hoping it would increase smoke), I realized I was getting too much nicotene constantly vaping the stuff during the day. I have to learn how to pace myself. :)

I tried mixing in about 50% PG in some small test batches and it seems to working fine. Next order I'll put in for some 0mg and try that. If I'm not mistaken all of Vermont Vapors menthol is reduced PG - at least that's what Adam implied...

For the record, I vape mostly all-VG liquids now and like them more than even JC's reduced-PG formulas. (I wish they'd get their VG-only liquids done already, but they've been "almost finished" for ages now.) The vapor production with all-VG liquids is spectacular, and there's none of that PG aftertaste which I greatly dislike.

Haven't lost an atomizer yet. But if anything will kill an atty, I'm betting it's the Diabolo Loco I started yesterday.

I'm about to order the reduced PG liquid from Johnson Creek, is that a good move in terms of vapor production?

In my experience, yes. The added VG really helps. However, I've taken to adding about 25% more VG (usually in the form of ECOpure so as not to dilute flavor too much) to my reduced-PG JC liquids, and that helps much more. Still not nearly as good as all-VG liquids, though. I think Decadent Vapours VG Absinthe may have ruined me for all other liquids.

I've used the JC PG formula and the vapor production is good. I usually cut it with VG which definitely increases the vapor production; thus, I would have to assume the reduced PG formula should produce a fair amount of vapor. It's been my experience that the way you vape is almost as important as what you cape when it comes to vapor production. Two or three long, slow, continuous draws seem to work best for me.

I wonder why PG liquids dominate the market and not VG? It seems like everyone likes VG better and it's cheaper! I assume there must be some logic behind it...right?

I am not sure about other markets around the country, but here in NY, PG is much cheaper than VG. To me I find that PG carries flavor better than VG, so from a flavoring aspect, you want to have PG in the mix so that you can use less flavoring to reach same goal, thus helping to keep the juices cheaper in price.
