Luke 11:1-4 (KJV)
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil."

In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
– Proverbs 29:6

Matthew 6:8-15

8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

I did not realize that the Lord's Prayer was in Luke as well. It's worded differently, and also doesn't have the extra 2 verses on forgiveness and stops after deliver us from evil. Odd. I have heard Luke's version a few times and wondered why it wasn't finished.

Another interesting thing is that when we say 'Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven,' we should realize that this is prophesy, as it hasn't happened as yet. God's kingdom hasn't come to earth as yet........but it's coming! Hallelujah!! Praise the Lord!!!! Thank You, Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit!!!!! AMEIN!!

Luke 12:15 (KJV)
And he said unto them, "Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth."

Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

I have also heard this referenced as the Sinner's Prayer.

Really? I haven't heard that. We So. Baptist (YES I'M ONE OF THOSE!) use Scripture plus the specific asking Jesus into our hearts to save us from sin and our desire to follow Him the rest of our days on earth. But I can see how the Lord's prayer in Luke could be used. Thanks for sharing, Bill!

John 14:6 sums Christianity up with: 'I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.' Yep, that says it all!

James 5:7 (KJV)
Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come. Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!

John 10:16 (KJV)
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

Matthew 24:35 (KJV)
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.a

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
– Ecclesiastes 9:10

Ecclesiastes 9:10 is quite adament.....like the Nike commercial.....just do it!

Matthew 24:35 is talking about the upcoming prophesy because this Heaven and earth shall pass away.......interesting words......like a loved one dying. Maybe that's where they got the phrase....from Scripture. Anyway, Jesus' words will stand firm.....no matter what! And that means we can stand on what He says from here to eternity!

Proverbs 13:25 (KJV)
The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
– Matthew 5:8

Proverbs 13:25 states more than just the words above. The wicked shall never be satisfied until they accept God. No matter what they do, it'll never be enough for them. How sad.:(

Matthew 5:8 puts an image into your mind when you read it! I imagine a very humble person who is the epitome of the pure in heart. You can just see them on their face before Almighty God, and God says it's okay to view Him. I imagine that's something we all strive for. As always, a humble person will settle for a little, but God gives them so much more. Again, you get another facet of Almighty God. It just warms your heart and gives us such an example. :)

1 Peter 3:21 (KJV)
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour that seek my hurt. But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more. My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.

I'll admit I had trouble with 1Peter 3:21. So, I went to my 'please explain this to me' version of Scripture...The Living Bible. It's as follows:

1 Peter 3:21Living Bible (TLB)
21 (That, by the way, is what baptism pictures for us: In baptism we show that we have been saved from death and doom by the resurrection of Christ;[a] not because our bodies are washed clean by the water but because in being baptized we are turning to God and asking him to cleanse our hearts from sin.) Am I the only one who had trouble with the KJV? Most Scriptures are plain to me in KJV, but not this one. Oh well. :( What about you Bill? MM?
