Yep. Quitting cold turkey is a ridiculous thing to do, overall. I only quit smoking cold turkey when I was pregnant - but after that I picked it up again SO fast...and it's taken an e-cig to keep me from my half a pack a day habit. And I have slipped up a few times but...it's better to think of it as a gradual process.

I quit cold turkey, no NRT, no support group, etc and remained smoke free for 1 year. Then one day under a lot of stress I picked it back up..

A friend of mine quit cold turkey and remained smoke free for 5 years, then picked it back up.

they say Nicotine lasts only 3 days in your system with a 2 week withdrawal period. However, the psychological addiction lasts a lifetime.

Hah! Really? That's quite impressive.

Like I mentioned I quit cold turkey when I got pregnant but..I was in the military, my ex-husband deployed, I went through a lot of mental turmoil over that and my addiction just got the best of me.

My current husband actually quit cold turkey six years ago but started smoking again in the past 2....and is currently weaning himself off of cigarettes via his e-cig. Since we live in Canada finding the liquid and whatnot had been a real chore, as it's not good quality from Canadian suppliers...but now we have and we have never been happier. :D

But since we want children together eventually I figure it's best we quit in a way that's not going to drive us both batty and make our lives harder than they have to be (I'm a ..... when I don't get my nicotine, haha).

Hahahahahaha. I feel you, for sure.

When I had to leave for the army and go to basic training (and yes, I am a girl!) I had to quit outright and for the first 2 weeks I was likely to kill anyone who was anywhere near me. Not to mention I got the massive headaches associated with nicotine withdrawal. I was really angsty and .....y and I actually had to not talk at all unless absolutely necessary because I KNEW I would go off on someone.

Inside my head I was like ".... YOU ALL BLAAAAAAAAAAH GIMME A CIGARETTE!" but on the outside I was stoic, haha.

I mentioned in one of my other posts about my nazi ex smoker hubby. I found out the other day he has been smoking on the sly.
I know he told me he quit cold turkey when his daughter had a breathing problem as a toddler. She is 17 now. I am thinking he quit at least 15 yrs ago. That kind of upsets me knowing you can go that long and still go back.
I always knew (from what he told me about his past) he didn't want to quit but did for various reasons, mainly his daughter's health. I think that is why he was nazi about it. If he couldnt do it no one else should either. If he continues I guess he will be vaping along with me. I think he is embarassed to be smoking and won't let me see him and this is why he is trying to hide it from me after all he put me through about it. Too bad for him , since I haven't smoked in 2 months my sense of smell came back.

Ahhh yes. I noticed that too!

Once I stopped smoking regular cigarettes my sense of smell was through the roof and my sense of taste was as well. :)

I actually find that the scent of cigarettes now disgusts me. :(

Yeah my sense of smell has increased too! Sweet tasting foods taste a lot better than they used to!

I can say that the scent of cigs are attractive to me. IDK, I liked the second hand smoke smell ever since I was a kid! However, first hand smoke tastes a LOT worse.

Indeed!

I actually have a love/hate relationship with my sense of smell. I can smell everything incredible, but when I go outside I can also smell the garbage bins, etc. It bothers me, hahah.

But the smell of smoke now makes me feel kind of gross. And I had a puff of a cig a few weeks back and HATED it hahaha.

Yep I still like second hand smoke that is fresh smelling ie.. walking past a burning cig to go into a store or friends over smoking. But kissing hubby was just nasty when I smelled it. That is how he got Busted! Now I know how he felt the last few yrs. I don't like cig smell when it is left over, like stale in a house or car, but I never liked that before either it is just magnified now.

Really near the mexican border.
ok, so today i bought a pack of analogs. don't misunderstand i looooove vaping, i just can't seem to let go of these things. i hate the way they taste, the way they smell, the way they make me feel, and of course the way they make my wallet a whole lot lighter. anyone else having the same problem? what is it about these things that keep me coming back for more abuse? i am hoping this.....thing will go away completely very soon. any advice? maybe once i find the perfect juice i won't feel the need to use analogs as such a crutch
I don't think there is a perfect juice or anything else that makes us not want an analog. With all the chemicals in them, there has to be something else that we don't get from vaping that makes us want an analog, especially after a few months. I fell off too. But it's not a failure think of it as one more step in right direction. It reminds of us why we don't want to smoke. The smell, the taste, the cough......Our bodies and brains are addicted to something more than just the nictotine, I believe!
Just give in and then go back to vaping, that pack will last you way longer than you will expect it too.Not to mention you probably have been vaping way shorter time than you did as a smoker. It's just about retraining the brain. If one or two puffs will do ya, then that's what you do and go back to vaping to "retrain" your brain to love vaping and hate smoking. I can't even smoke a whole analog anymore, but sometimes I just want a hit.....If you smoke less than two cigs a week, according to experts you are no longer addicted to smoking, you are smoking socially.
It's something I learned in Psychology and I have a degree in it.
My Mother is a "social smoker" she can have one and never touch another one until a few months to years later. She is not addicted to smoking, it's just something she does "socially" once every now and then. I believe we can train our brains to let us do this also, it just takes time and commitment.

Been almost 6 months without an analog and have not even craved one since. When I started I used both, eventually eliminating the analogs altogether. For me I had to get rid of the tobacco flavors and I went with some other choices, but that was my thing. May not be yours. We all fall off the wagon at one time or another, we're human, but continue your quest for the right combination and it will come. Best wishes

Wow, this has been a great thread...one that all new members should read. Thank's for starting it Nook!

I get sad every time I see a new member beating themselves up for having a cigarette, like they all gotta go cold turkey. Man that is sooo old school! With those ways, if you had one, you really did "fall off the wagon" because you had no safety net. We got the best safety net with what we're doing...vaping and ecf.

If only everyone would eliminate the "Q" word from their vocabulary like Nyx and take the pressure off themselves, the journey will be so much fun. Like Zelda, I still enjoy analogs...in fact it tastes a lot better than before I started vaping...just enjoy vaping more. I know in my heart that I will be joining the ranks of "accidental quitters" in ecf in due time...but i'm in no rush because i'm having so much fun along the way.

Every time I see a great 1-2 liner, I copy and paste it to my notepad. I call them "Pearls of Wisdom" and maybe I'll print my collection in a post someday. Here's a good one by DaveP from yesterday:

"...The last few will go away eventually without cravings. Allowing one after a meal, one in the morning, and one at night has helped me keep my sanity and a smile on my face..."

Thanks for all the inspiration folks.
