It could be the adapter causing a short or it could be the atty/carto in the tank. Try using a different atty/carto with the same adapter and see if it still gets warm. Then take out the adapter all together and see if it gets warm. You have to get to the source of the problem and fix it.

Good suggestion, def something with the carto or adaptors. Doesn't seem to do it with my atty. Could over tightening the adaptors cause this?

It is always a possibility with adapters. There is a reason why they are inexpensive. They are made cheaply. I don't have money to toss away but I do have need for adapters from time to time. Thus, I always buy 2 or 3 of any adapter I intend to use. When there is any trouble with one, don't risk it.

When a short can be traced to an adapter it is always best to simply trash it than to keep trying to use it. Much the same can be said of the cheaply constructed Chinese atties we all use for the most part. Soon we will have an option with the Odysseus that will do away with the need to rely on the Chinese crap. Or at least for most of the time anyway. ;)

Update from OP: After going spring-less for awhile, then buffing the spring with a green scratchy pad and getting a much better connection, I went back to using the spring. Well, I'm back to no spring again.

I was having to buff the spring every couple of days to keep the perfomance up, was getting to be a real pain. Running without the spring offers the the best performance from my GGTS, YMMV and do this AT YOUR OWN RISK! :vapor:
