What do you mean "exceed the amps of my setup"?
I divide my hypothetical .7 ohm coil by 3.7. How do I know if it is higher or lower than the amps of my "setup"? How do I calculate the amps of my setup?
You have to know the
amp limit (continuous discharge rate in amps) of your batteries. The amp limits of the most common/recommended high drain batteries are listed in the
Battery Basics for Mods blog linked above.
When you measure your coil's
resistance (ohms) with a digital multimeter or ohm meter, and factor in the battery
voltage (4.2 volts) in the
Ohm's Law Calculator, it will provide you the figure (
current = amp draw) of what the coil will draw from your battery. That figure should be
less than the continuous discharge rate (amps) of your battery. This is critical and should not be exceeded. In fact, you should leave a wide margin of safety.
I currently have 2 e-fest 18650 IMR batteries.
These batteries have a 10 amp limit. Do not exceed a 10 amp current draw from your coil. If you ever decide to go lower than 0.8 ohm, I recommend getting an IMR or hybrid battery with 20 - 30 amps.
