I'm not a modder so I guess someone else will have to get rich off this. (Just give me a free unit if you do, please... :) )

How about a pass-through mod where a 12V car plug is integral to the box. The plug connection, perhaps a bit lengthened to accommodate recessed lighter sockets, would secure the unit flush (more or less) to the dashboard. With no batteries, there would be plenty of space for a juice feeder bottle and variable voltage circuitry. Add a robust (perhaps retractable?) cord connection and switch, of course.

Or has this already been done?

I had a slap-myself-in the-forehead moment a bit ago about the juice-feed aspect, which of course can't be in the box for what is essentially a pass-through. To reiterate my notion as corrected, I'd want.

- A box with a 12v male connector that powers it and is directly attached to it in such a way that the box is held flush against the dashboard by way of the connection to the lighter socket. A direct link--no USB.

- The box contains the variable voltage circuitry, controller and voltage readout.

- Attached to the box (reliably, please) is the pass-through cable with button. Some sort of retractabilty back to the box in the interest of cable neatness might be a plus.

Looking at his picture, it appears there is a length of wire running from the male 12v plug back to the box. What I visualize is the male plug actually affixed to the box and holding it right to the dashboard. More integral.

Only if all cars have the same dash/12v connection configuration. The cord allows his design to fit all cars...that's a plus. The retractable cord would be a PITA because it will always have tension as it's trying to retrack all the time.

So... basically a VV PT box mod with a 12V cig lighter plug that attaches directly to the box itself (leaving no visible wire between them), so when not in use you have the box seemingly attached to the dash where the cig lighter receptacle is (assuming that isn't recessed, like inside the ashtray or anything like that). Then when you want to vape, just detach the box from the plug, thereby unreeling the cable that actually supplies power from the plug to the box?

It occurs to me it might be tidier yet to just have a mod made from the 12v plug body itself, with a battery inside and atty attached to the end. Leave it plugged in to charge, pull it out to vape. I reckon a small enough battery could fit -- say, CR2(s), 14250(s) or a 10440 -- which doesn't need to be large capacity, since it'd always be "stored" in its power receptacle charging whenever you're not actively vaping on it. Maybe mount the atty on a swivel joint, so it doesn't stick out too far and could be flipped upward to keep the juice in and coil soaked, ready to vape at any moment.

Excellent refinement! That way I'd have a PV that's always charging in its storage place and none of the hassles and vulnerabilities of a pass-through cable. Plus, it could be a juice box.
