What would be nice is if the date of the original thread was put on it. It has the date of the post but alot of times you click on a thread, that is time sensative, only to find it was originally posted 2 mo. ago or longer and is no longer valid.

+1 on that. Since 'Todays Posts' was removed from the toolbar, it can certainly help find the newer threads.

Let's call it an "upgrade" instead of removal since you can re-enable it via User Control Panel > Edit Options.

I can add the original post date for a thread however, when I feel like working /me runs away

I agree, that would be a good idea.
So many threads are titled with having a "new" idea or item, then you click and see that it is a year old and has probaby been hashed over a thousand times.

It'll make every single thread from the point you click it as read, then anything new from that point on will show up everything else hides.

But what if you want to go back and re-read old posts on SOME threads but not on others? If you use "Mark Form As Read" you hide all previous posts on All threads, right? I like the idea of putting the original date on the thread.

No, the link just marks the threads and posts as read. This will ONLY affect the New Posts link. The forum and threads will never disappear, they just don't appear in New Posts search anymore. You can find old threads and posts via Advanced Search or manually going through the forums.
