Hi just registered.
After 32 years smoking and never managing more than a day at giving up (tried the patches, pills, gum, inhaler etc) I am now on day nine of being cigarette free.
Had briefly flirted with an ecig before but had used a cheap ciggy lookalike that was a pale comparison to the smokes so had written off the electronic stuff.

Then I got chatting to my barber and he extolled the virtues of vaping and pointed me in the direction of a nearby vapour shop - I went straight there and got kitted out. And here I am nine days in - can't really believe it to be honest, thought I was a no hoper.
I think what it is is vaping has the lot for me - the ritual, the smoke (OK vape), managing to pretty well match the flavor of my cigs and now I find there's a whole vaping community out there.

My first few days were made easier by being on holiday with the kids; "daddy you don't stink of smoke anymore" was nice to hear. Going back to work was the thing I thought would be tough but it has actually turned out to be really easy. It might have helped in that I have tried to continue my smoking routine as before but vaping instead ie I still go out for a chat as usual with the smokers (their smoking doesn't bother me at all). Funny thing is they are all asking me how to get into vaping so I'm hoping they will soon be converts and we will have a vapors and not smokers corner.

So where to now? Step one is to hit some more milestones (2 weeks then 1 month) and carry on as is until I know I will never go back to the evil weed. Long term I do plan to cut down the nicotine level (currently 20) and eventually stop altogether but no deadline for that. I see a lot of people end up on these things permanently - my take is it can't be good for you but it must be 1000 times better then smoking.

At the moment I am sticking with tobacco taste but keep thinking about trying a few flavours (eg strawberry) just to see what it is like? Any thoughts re will that taste really odd when I have been 30+ years Mr Tobacco?
Already planning to upgrade my gear when I get my next pay check LOL; have my eyes on a Nautilus next, just like the idea of a big tank that will last a while.

Anyway hello to everyone here - good to see such a great community.

Welcome and congratulations! :toast:

I just passed 5 weeks myself. I also appreciate the "you don't stink" comment from my s.o. :)

I was a menthol (lights) smoker for over 20 years. I actually prefer non-tobacco flavors (desserts, coffees, a few fruits), although my local shop has a vanilla tobacco that I don't mind too much; reminds me of my Father's pipe from years ago. Their Vanilla X is much better IMO. Look for small bottles - sample packs - so you don't necessarily have to invest a lot up front until you decide what you like (and your tastes may well change, as your sense of smell and taste improve after being off the analogs.)

I know a lot of folks are commenting on their larger tanks - I have a handful of EVOD tanks (about 1.8-2.0 mL) with which I rotate flavors. I tend to get bored easily LOL and need something to swap - also find that my tongue grabs taste changes more quickly.

Congratulations again, and enjoy the journey!

Congratulations! I smoked for 30 years and have been vaping now almost 3 years. I also never thought I'd ever be able to quite after trying so many times and never being successul, until ecigs. I think it's normal that we all wanted tobacco flavors at first to mimic our cigs. I definitely think you should get a few flavors to try because you may be shocked to prefer them over tobaccos. Most vapers do end up preferring flavors rather than tobaccos. Also, some prefer fruits, some desserts/sweets, some vanillas, etc. etc. So try a few different kinds to see what you might prefer. And for me, after I vaped a couple weeks, I tried to smoke a cig because I was having drinks and it was a weekend and I had that sinful thought in my head of "am I missing out on it" type dumb idea. So I did try to smoke and OMG! I was shocked to find after two puffs I just didn't like it anymore and preferred my vape. I think once we get used to the clean and pure flavors from vaping, when and if we do try to smoke again it just doesn't satisfy us the same. I felt like I just wasn't getting enough smoke (vapor) lol, and I had to suck alot harder on it, and the smell was all over my hands, and just BLAH! lol. Man, I never though I would feel that way about cigs. Now that I haven't smoked in so long, the smell actually makes me sick. At first I did the same routine and went out with the smokers and had my vape break. Now I just can't handle the smell of it so I vape at my desk or in the bathroom. lol. Good luck and keep vaping!

Congrats on 9 days!!

For me, when I first started I thought I really wanted that "real cig" flavor, bit as time went on I realized I enjoyed sampling the world of other flavors available to me now.

A lot of vendors offer reasonably priced sample packs. So maybe do a bit if research on what/who you might want to try and pick one up. See how you like stepping outside the box. :)

Vaping is banned in our office - being the union Health and Safety rep I am thinking of raising the question as to why. Doesn't seem a health and safety risk to me. Also by forcing me outside to stand with the smokers I could argue they are exposing me to the dangers of passive smoking. A legal minefield there...

There is! :)

I wish I'd found out before, as I'd wasted so much time and money on BS products.

I enjoyed your post... well done. :)

I'm guessing you have discovered all the "best" UK online shops. Not that B&M stores are necessarily bad, it's just some of them are badder (£££) than others.

Actually, I work at a law firm and I don't think that would hold up. No one is forcing you to go outside and vape, so in essence you are exposing yourself. lol. Now if you wanted to file a complaint about all smoking not being permitted outside, then that's different. Luckily my office lets me vape at my desk, but I am starting a new job at a new law firm in two weeks and dread possibly not being able to vape at my desk anymore :( oh, well. People just don't seem to understand it enough yet.

Way to go!! I've been smoke free for about 2 months now and I'm loving it!! I first quit smoking about 2 years ago with one of the cheap cigarette looking eciggs, which I used for about 2 months to ween me of of smoking, and had quit for about a year. But then I "relapsed" and smoked again for about a year. :( After feeling like crap again and wishing I had never started back up, I decided enough is enough and tried the cheap ecigg again but just couldn't kick it this time. Then my bf had me try a vape pen I believe it was just a cheap Ego vape pen and I was in love. From that I moved on to a variable voltage and then to my K100. I will continue upgrading and collecting mods and just chasing clouds! Vaping has changed my life for the better!!! I can't imagine ever smoking again...who would want to when you can vape?!?
