Ok, not reading through all 13 pages (bad I know), and skipping to the end- I see that things have veered off-topic...
But, just to put my 2ct in on the animated graphics.
As someone that is prone to headaches, and very light sensitive; the flashing banners can trigger a nasty migraine. I avoid looking at anything that flashes. The smiles are fine, movement doesn't bother me, but the flashing light is a big trigger.
I am grateful that this rule is now in effect. It was getting so bad, I was afraid to read any threads. So, for that... thank you.
(now that pervy guy is another story! He doesn't look like he's "blowing a raspberry", he looks like he's licking everybody.)

well, as the thread started on the flashing graphics and ended up on cats, I'd say that was quite a veer.

I kinda do wish they'd just change the definition of
to "Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!" It WOULD come in handy for that, but as it is ('pervy'), I must pass. <--- that one I take to be more of a 'silly me' thingI think this one also pretty much sucks for conveying 'mellowness':
Its corresponding text version is :-| (which I define as similar to :-/ ); which IMO have traditionally expressed something between nothingness/so what and arggg... At those times, I certainly wouldn't want to be mistaken for just feeling 'mellow' instead!! :-/ Conversely, when i AM feeling mellow, which is generally considered a GOOD thing, I don't want to look 'so-whatish' or 'arrrgg-ish.'And this...

I have to agree... the I use in the same manner and the yawn I just can't use, because it looks nothing like a yawn. There are several others that fall in that "unusable" category.
