Dear vendors, I don't need this much mystery in my life....

I used to play the "guessing game" when I first started vaping. I'd even crawl through the reviews looking for someone to explain what they "thought" it tasted like. Now I won't even bother. If I visit a new site, even if it comes highly recommended, and they don't include descriptions or are very vague, I just click away. There are tons of vendors out there that are vying for my business that do list descriptions. The ones that want me to play a guessing game don't deserve my money.

I don't even buy if they don't list PG VG ratio. I figure if they don't give pg/vg , at this stage in the game, they are missing the boat somehow.

you realize that good juice makers are kinda like chefs, right?
why would a chef want to give out his secrets? the pg/vg ratios change the way a juice tastes. if people give out the ratios, then it's easier for others to copy/replicate the recipe.

i mean.....would you open up a restaurant with a special dish, but then tell everyone the secret ingredient??

But if you go into a restaurant and look at the menu you'll be able to discern the dishes served by Beef, Chicken, or Seafood so you kind of know what to expect when the plate is served. I would not order a mystery dish that doesn't describe the basic information as to what kind of "meat" it is. You could be biting into a mouthful of snails, frogs, alligator, snake, dog, cat, etc... you get my gist.

oh yes, i agree about the descriptions 100%!
i hate that they just say "it tastes like awesome" or something.

i was just talking about the pg/vg ratios.

Your Honor, counsel is leading the witness... The way the two questions are framed---using the word "secret" in both---is a dead giveaway to the desired answers.

Look, if some restaurant chef has a lasagna recipe with a secret ingredient, I don't ask for the secret (or care, for that matter). All I want to know is that it's lasagna. Similarly, if an eliquid was created with 13 different vanillas, I don't need to know them all by name, source, and percentage ratios. I just want to know that the juice has vanilla in it.

One new vendor---OpenSourceVapor---has a limited line of all-organic and PG-free liquids and publishes not only a description, but also the precise recipe for each liquid on its respective product page. Here's the recipe for their Mocha liquid:

For tank,
0.54% Organic chocolate flavor
0.3% Organic coffee flavor
0.24% Organic vanilla flavor
0.12% Organic caramel flavor
0.8% Organic white vinegar
5% Organic Rebaudioside-A (sweetener) / VG (60mg/mL)
6% Sterile saline (0.9%NaCl soln.)
12.5% Ultra-distilled Penta water
Nicotine
Vegetable Glycerin

Even with the recipe, however, I couldn't replicate their Mocha liquid, because I don't know the source of the organic flavorings used, and that makes all the difference. By the way, I'm not shilling for OpenSourceVapor; I haven't had any of their juices. What they're doing with (almost) full disclosure, however, seems to me a significant development in the retail eliquid marketplace. I'm definitely in favor of greater transparency.

I don't expect chefs to give up their "secret ingredient", but honestly, PG and VG are certainly not "secret ingredients".

Oh, and I do expect the waitstaff to disclose flavor profiles and find out if the dish I'm interested in might contain an ingredient that I'm sensitive to.

Flavorings are from medicineflower.com

The vendors that I have used or checked out who do not disclose their pg/vg ratio on their website have been very prompt about replying to my inquiries. So far, I have not had any problems getting that information. That being said, I am not going to use the "Contact" form or email just to find out what even the basic flavor profile for each eliquid is. If the vendor cannot be bothered to give even a basic description of the eliquid, or provide reviews from customers who do, then I pass, and go to another vendor who will.

Open Source Vapors lists every ingredient in their mix, and even the brands that make their ingredients. If you don't want your juice to be a mystery, this is where you should go.

My biggest pet peeve is when a juice vendor doesn't even list the size of the bottle they are selling you. If it's not immediately obvious how much juice they are selling me, I close the page and put them on my black list of vendors I will never order from.
