This is pretty much a thought carried over from another thread that I read, and I think this is the right forum for it. If not, please direct me to the correct place. :D

I am debating on getting a dripper set-up of some sort, but I really don't have the time to learn to build coils right now, but I'm sure this will lead to that eventually. What are some good options available that I could buy, and have online readily available coils for?

I will be buying a whole setup, not using one of my existing batteries.

Ebay has some sellers selling premade coils, but imho they're waaaaay overpriced. Id just say buy a 10 meter roll of kanth al between 28 and 34 gauge and try building a few coils. At first they might be a ugly looking but they'll get better and you won't buy 4-10 coils for 5 bucks.

Its really not that difficult to learn how to build coils. Just get a few smaller diameter drill bits/screwdrivers/etc to wrap around, some 26-30G A1 kanthal, an ohm checker or multimeter, your rda and start tinkering around.

As long as you use proper batteries and know the safe zone of them its really not difficult at all. It just might take a couple days to get nice and pretty and where you like them

I say go for it. I was a skeptic too on building coils but just as everyone else says once you drip you never go back. I love it. And now I love building coils! I have a kayfun clone and this thing just produces great flavor and great clouds of vape. :vapor:

So yes just go to a local vape store or you can order online but you will need kanthal wire 26-30G. Get a good amount so you can do a few practice builds and they are normally sold by the foot or you can get a whole roll. Lookup some videos on youtube about it and soon enough you'll be a dripping/coil building pro!!

It's a whole lot of fun and rewarding to build them yourself. so just have fun with it. You'll learn what ohms are best for you in time. Just gotta be careful what kind of mod you use as some won't allow you to do sub ohm-ing safely (anything less than a 1.0)

Don't think about it, just do it :) I never went back to a mod after getting my first RDA.

This!

Look, I TOTALLY get why you may think you don't have the time right now, but I guarantee you that there is someone out there/in here that will help you get up and running in no time flat! I am not suggesting you run before you crawl, or that you take on more than you can handle, it's just that I think it's much less of a big deal/less time consuming than you realize. I am not mechanically inclined in the least bit, but I found myself almost ashamed that I thought it was so difficult to learn. It's really much less complicated than all those dadgum videos make it seem!

p.s. Sure, anything can be a lot of work if you want to make it more complicated, but buying pre-made coils and such may make you feel one way about re-buildables when it could actually be that those pre-made coils generally suck (and they're a huge and unnecessary expense when you break it down). A great vape can be obtained in as little as 3 minutes from coil wrapping to wicking. It's not like learning to play an instrument, it's more like leaning to tie a tie.

If you want to be hooked on the excellent flavor and vapor that comes with dripping, I say go for it, my igo-w and magno ss are the most used equipment I own. I suggest kanthal and ekowool for the easiest setup. Just make sure to wash and dry your hands well before handling ekowool lol, it will soak up any sweat/oils on your hands like a sponge.

I just started dripping last week, got me igo-w3 which I really like for dual coils or quads, and I just been vaping that; Dripping is awesome once you get into it, I use cotton as wicking have not tried silica or ekowool but I assume similar expirience with those.

Regarding the coils, I will not go with premade, for sure overpriced, just get the wire as some have suggested (good deals online and you can get different gauge cable I recommend, 32g,30g & 28g) and just start doing coils it might be intimidating in the begging but once you start you will never stop ;-).

Sounds like you are using ego type batteries.

If you have ego batteries, the IGO-s is a good beginner RDA. It's only around $10-$12 and is just about the same diameter as an ego battery. I use the bottom piece of a defunct eVod tank as a base while rebuilding the atomizer.

It's not necessary, but I would get an ego thread cover. It not only looks nice, but helps to support the RDA. (Put on the thread cover, screw on the IGO-s, then screw the thread cover up against the base of the RDA.)

I suggest using 32 gauge Kanthal with the smaller mAh ego batteries. 30 gauge might be ok, but to me the coils take too long to heat up.

I find it hard to go back to clearomizers now.

Lots to consider here guys! You are making me consider it now!

And yes, I currently have Ego and twist batteries. I am ordering my first mod this weekend. I think I am going with an eVic first. We are driving down to Florida next month and the USB charging ability sold me. After that, probably a Provari. After that.... who knows?!?! lol

As one of you mentioned, knowing the battery limits and ohms and so forth, that is all that concerns me. I really want the simplicity of it. With the eVic and/or the Provari, will I be able to just get a routine down and have nothing to worry about if I get an RDA?

If this reaches you timely, pass on the eVic. I have one and it's amazing! but they are (sadly) disposable as well. The atty threads on mine were unusable after just 31 days.

The vendor, quite decently, took one from a new item and replaced it to me in less than a week. However, I have also have a Sigelei 20W that without all the bells and whistles of the eVic, ir built of very fine stainless steel and has a good atty thread that after two months still looks and feels new.

The threads on the eVic are made of a butter-like material that wears in two~three months at best. Google "eVic thread" and you will see that this is far from an isolated case. There are reports by the hundreds and they are next to unrepairable, short of replacing the head. With a 60 day warranty, you can guess what happens...

Joyetech has discontinued the original eVic and will replace it in a few weeks with the eVic Supreme. It will have among other improvements a user replaceable thread. Does that tell you something? :(

Dripping is the way to go! I switched to dripping about a month ago and have not used any of my other gear since.

Some of the reasons I like rebuildable drippers so much more include:

Consistent Vape - no more flooded tanks or burnt cartomizers

Price - all you need is a dripper, mod, battery, kanthal, and cotton. no having to buy replacement cartos or atomizers.

Flavor - A decent rda setup has blown away all other setups I have tried including the nautilus and the new aerotank mega

Clouds(if you want em) - Vapor production on a dripper is miles ahead of other delivery systems

Simplicity - no more wondering where my tank is leaking from and why, or why is the atty not wicking or flooding. rda = just wire and wick!

if you want to go the variable watt/volt route I would suggest the mvp2, loved mine. It is tough, easy to use, OHM METER, great battery life(with pass though when charging) and cheap. Personally I think that a mech mod is the way to go if you want to drip with rebuildables, but a vv/vw may be more forgiving and easier to use when starting out.

As far a dripper I love the igo w series for dual coils, if you want to start with single coil builds Igo L is the way to go. both need to be drilled out though , if you want a dripper that is ready to go out of the box there is the trident 1 or 2, smok caterpillar, stillare...

If you got any question down the line or what not feel free to shoot me a pm

Or a Kayfun clone in RDA mode... ;-) Best of both worlds!

damn that looks tasty foreverdiving. I wish I had seen that a month ago before I sold my kf 3.1 clone. I could never get it to wick properly w/o flooding :( but never thought about using it as a dripper.

Ouch! That must have hurt. Actually, it was so easy, use is as well so easy, maintenance nil, nada, null, zero –just clip the cotton at one end next to coil, pull and rewick; not even need to wash- that I'm even considering using another in the same fashion. Right now I'm looking for a more professional looking plug but the toothpick is working great!

OTOH, yesterday I got a PMMS Kayfun parts kit from FT and, guess what? NO LEAKS! I've ordered two more. :) BTW, the more expensive Kfun 3.1 from them works pretty much ok and even fills from the bottom without fuss, should you want to replace yours, or, maybe you can rebuy it at a discount from the very dissatisfied new owner? ;)
