I was really optimistic about Spring today. I bought some potting soil and a neat pot that sits over the deck rails.

I have some nice wire baskets with green glass decorative discs that hang on my balcony rails. There are two sizes, for small and large pots. Fortunately, as I kill every plant I come in contact with, they look nice empty.

Where my house was in Juneau, ...
I have a twin (not identical) brother that lives in Alaska. While in the Air Force he was stationed up in some of the northern areas like Fairbanks. Now that he retired from the Air Force, he lives somewhere down in the more "civilized areas" near Anchorage.

They sound pretty. I'm pretty good at killing plants myself:)

I wouldn't move to Anchorage. I lived in Juneau and my hubby had a condo in Anch but felt the crime rate too high for me to move from a place that had nearly none. Sheesh... only way to Juneau is plane or boat and everyone knows everyone so no sense in really doing anything major. Even car chases don't happen, they just go to your house and wait for you to come home. A guy robbed a bank there and they just stuck posters on the door of all the bars saying we know it was you... turn yourself in... he was sitting on the Fed courthouse steps Monday morning when they came to work.

    Good Morning...

That depends on which part of AK you visit in winter. Southeast is not like what you think of when you think of Alaska... SE is actually a temperate rainforest climate much like Seattle. I lived in PA before moving back up there and the winters in PA were as bad or worse than what you get in SE AK. It also seems that down here you never get cold without getting the wind and you generally don't have the wind up there like we get down here.

    Good morning, Joan.

You make it sounds pretty tolerable. I guess if you're further south the winter days are longer too. All i know about Alaska is from the s TV series Northern Exposure and Kate Shugak novels by Dana Stabenow. do you miss Alaska?

There are things I miss but it was my choice to move back South, mainly because of parents, and up there if you get hurt badly they fly you either to Anch or Seattle which is about 2.5-3 hrs either way. Didn't appreciate the tourists tho... not a businessperson so to me they were always a bother. Couldn't walk the dog without either being run off my path by a flock of them on bikes or having to stop for a photo op with my dog. I really miss the fresh seafood.
