Happy Friday Clowder peeps!

WooHoo! My back pay has been deposited in my account! :w00t:

I'm not exactly rolling in dough like these little guys, but it's a nice little cushion to help me out and get my bills on track.

What back pay? Did your former employer owe you money?

My "retirement" is almost official. In 6 days, Time Warner will start depositing $90 and change in my account each and every month. Move over kittens.

Yup. I'm rich. That's over $1,000 a year.

It's actually very nice. I worked for Money magazine from 1985-1990. For my first 3-4 years, there was no 401k but there was a retirement plan. 30 years ago I was making diddly so anything I get is pure windfall.

Their 401k was a tragic story. Once upon a time, Time Inc. really valued their employees (ancient history.) The 401k was 1-for-1 matching with their contribution being in Time Inc. stock. I could only afford the basic 6% back then but it still added up. They merged with Warner. The stock went up. It split. It went up and split again. The shareholders rejected a merger with AOL so they did an end run and had AOL buy Time Warner. The stock promptly went in the toilet and has never really recovered. (First world problems.)

And my first Amazon subscription for Kleenex arrive. I have to figure out where to stash 18 boxes. I usually stock up with 8 or 10 boxes whenever I find a buy-one-get-one but my allergies have been so bad this spring that I ran out and have been having trouble finding a good sale. I'm pretty sure I'll run out before my next shipment in 6 months. :)

... Not only will the monthly checks cover all of my bills going forward, but I'll be getting a few months of back benefits that will help me get my bill situation straightened out from my creative financing LOL. ...

Disability back pay. They base it on your "onset date". I got laid off in August, but didn't decide to apply until sometime in November. But since there really was no change in my physical condition in that time frame, I declared my last day of work as my onset date.

Of course they have the option to accept it, or consider the onset date the date I applied. You then have to also consider there's a 5 month waiting period where no benefits are earned. That's usually eaten up by the lengthy application and decision process anyway.

Luckily they accepted my declared onset date. So subtracting the 5 months Sep-Jan, that left Feb thru April accruing back pay. However they pay a month behind, April's benefits will be paid May 1(ish). So that leaves 2 months, Feb & Mar, of unpaid benefits. Which I got today! :)
