Hi, I've been vaping for over a year and quit analogs in Dec 2013. I couldn't be happier. But even after all of this time, I do not get all of the terminology that comes with this wonderful sub-culture of people. Is there any web site or post that has all (or a lot anyway) possible definitions for the terms, acronyms, etc., including specifics describing how those terms are related to one's e-cig? I just feel so intimidated when I walk in and I end up calling my atomizer, "the thingy in the middle."

VV, VW, cartomizer, atomizer, coil, protected/unprotected battery, wick, drip tip, OHMs, Watts, variable, the list goes on and on. I think it would be great for me, and especially great for new vapers, to have a one-stop shop for getting their vaping education.

VV variable voltage. You can change how many volts run to your coils. Variable means not consistent or having a fixed pattern; liable to change. You can change it. VW. Variable wattage. Coil is the metal (generally Kanthal or Nichrome) that heats up the wick to vaporizing temperature, the wick (silica, ecowool, organic cotton, cellu cotton) is what holds/sucks up the juice to be vaped. Carto/cartomizer is a metal tube (with tiny holes at the bottom for feeding the wick from the tank) filled with wick and a coil embedded in the wick so it heats up and vapes the juice from inside the tube and wicking material. Atty/atomizer is a coil or two inside a metal tube with the wicks running outside the tube to soak up juice from the tank. Protected battery is one that won't work if you are trying to use it in dangerous situations. Unprotected ones will work as long as there is a connection. Drip tip is a tip you put on dripping atomizers (RDA's [rebuildable dripping atomizers where you wrap your own coils and wick them yourself] or ones without a tank) so you can drip your juice straight on the wicking material. Ohms is an electronics term which means resistance (how easily amps can get through the coil), watts means power and is how many amps are actually getting through the coil. Amps is short for amperage which means current and that's basically how strong your battery is. You can find amps by using ohms law equation which is Amperage=Voltage/Ohms.

My post in another thread earlier today.

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping.

1. A Good Starter's Setup for a Beginning Vapor
2. Advancing Up the Vaping Ladder with Egos and Mods
3. Proper terminology - Is it a carto, a tank, or what? A Guide to Juice Attachments.
4. Something Safe for Cinnamon and Citrus Flavors

And here are a few more on "vaping terminology".

1. A – Z E-Cig Glossary
2. e-Cigarette Jargon and Terms – eCig 101
3. Vaping Glossary - what does it all mean?
4. ECF Abbreviations 101

#4 is very handy when trying to decipher ECF members "slang" -- i.e the informal type of communication many members use on forums such as this.

Check out all of Baditudes blog posts. He has 14 of them covering many other topics. He is without doubt ECF's resident expert on batteries and battery safety.
