honestly i've never had that problem with cartos. i use the premium 808 ones from litecigusa.net and i've never gotten a burnt taste, even when they're almost bone dry.

you may want to look into an eGo or the kr808 PigCig. they're not as big as they appear. i have a pigcig and the battery with carto attached isn't much bigger than a 100 cigarette. it kinda looks like you're smoking a short cigar.

I'm really new to vaping, but I think that my initial decision to go with the eGo system saved me from all that confusion. Like everyone else here has said, the less longevity on your batt and the less nic hit you get, the less you will be likely to stick with this.

I can honestly say, after only three days of vaping, i am totally satisfied and without any cravings on an eGo with 24mg juice. If you try the right combo, it just might do the trick.....

I have been going back and forth with ecigs for two years with the same kinds of frustrations. Fortunately, the available ecigs out there now are far superior to the ones out just a couple of years ago. I have sunk a ton of money into trial and error with ecigs also but I look at it like this: I was spending $250 a month on cigarettes. For that price you could buy at least 4 complete ecig starter kits a month and still come out at least breaking even on cost. For me that is worth it because you will eventually find the one that you are happy with. I just started using the ego tank system and I love it. It takes many of the hassles you have had out of the equation. Good luck and don't give up. There is a ton of good advice on this forum and many people who have gone through the same frustrations.

I'm *exactly* where you are at.... okay, maybe not exactly, in which case my emphasizing the word was stuipid.. but anyways:
I started out with a 501 kit, with a fancy name brand stamped on the box for a premium $$. It worked pretty well, and although I didn't like refilling a cart every few tokes, it at least tasted okay and I was able to quit analogues. I literally had to fill a cart, which at first gave me a few minutes of heavy vaping, and then had to pull it off, put a few drops in the cart & on the atty, then put it back on, take a few hits, and over and over. I read spent months of 8+hrs a day reading past ECF posts, watching vids, trying every cart mod & filler mods known, plus some of my own. Then I ordered some more atty's, and my Mother (a non-smoker, but a scientist interested in the positive aspects of nicotine) bought a non-brand name, but "guaranteed" genuine Joye 510 starter kit from a very well known, very trusted supplier. The atty's she received in her starter, and the ones I got (same company, ordered within days of each other) were... horked (technical term).
They were burning something in the atty, getting so hot that you couldnt hold the e-cig, and emitting a terrible burn plastic smoke. (no, it wasn't primer fluid). I suspect that in addition to burning _something_ in the atty, they might have been burning the end of the plastic carts, and in the cases of my blue foam mods, they definitely burnt the blue foam, visibly. I tried washing them out, and drying them multiple times, going so far as to use expensive anhydrous solvents to clean. Tried increasing airflow in order to keep temp down. No luck.
Most people would just chalk it up to a couple of bad atty's. At the time there were few reports of bad attys, and fewer, if any, reports of atty's overheating- afterall (some ECF'ers pointed out) some people were driving these atty's at 6v. I questioned my findings, afterall I had never purposely smoked burnt plastic before, but when I saw the burnt foam, I knew things were awry- because like every man who had been a naughty boy, a certainly knew what burnt plastics _looked_ like.
(And no, it wasn't only on the blue foam mods that these atty's helping me smoke polymers with, as the foam mod were an attempt to _fix_ the original problem of the atty's burning something.) Anyway, where most would have chalked it up to a few bad atty's and marched on, all of this was a pretty big financial hit to me. My health has been failing for years (at the time unrelated to smoking), and I'm unable to work more than a few hrs a week, and those are done on an old laptop from my bed.
So finances are *tight*.

In the meantime while trying to futz with the horked atty's, with my original attys & carts, which weren't nor ever did wick, I had given up on removing carts, putting 2-3 drops which would overfill them, putting them back on, vaping those drops, etc- and had gone to dripping directly on the atty and "stovepiping" off the atty. This was before drip-tips were widely available, or widely used. You could buy fancy metal ones from one or two semi-obscure vendors, but by this time I was losing my patience with the whole thing.
Eventually I just threw all my juices (20+), the various 510 parts from my and my mothers e-cig parts into a box, and went back to analogues... well, not the usual analogues, I ryo/myo, so my cig spending is significantly less than that of the average smoker.

Although my mother totally lost interest (and has a cough that started with her inhaling burn plastic, and has not cleared up after months- granted the relationship between the ecig experiment & the cough is only casual, its still disturbing), a tragedy since she's a scientist connected with drug trials. and could have been a powerful ally in the fight to keep these things legal- I had not lost interest, and kept up with the "state of the vape". Dripping became commonplace, better attys were coming out, etc.

Recently I was diagnosed with further health problems, these ones being at least affected by my smoking. So I'm making another run at vaping. I had wanted to go with a provari to maximize my options, but by the time I scraped together the $$, there was a 3wk wait, and I simply can't wait that long due to health reasons. I had considered trying to purchase someones space in the queue, but it seemed to complicated. The ego-T's were starting to hit the market and get good review, so I went with that. I should receive early next week. I don't know how well the tank thing will work, and I'm not in the mindset that thats my only option. I was swayed not only by the tank system, but also because its a relatively powerful battery with 510 threads, which leaves me a wide world of options. If the tanks don't work, I'll try combinations of drip tips & various attys (eGo mega, 510 LR, 306, etc), the various cartomizers, etc. For what I paid for the eGo-T, i got into a 3+v batt system, plus some attys, charger, etc. I couldn't have done any better by going with a commercially avail mod PV. Sure, I probably would have preferred a fancy provari/provape/GLV/GG/etc/etc., but my funds are limited as is my time. I'm good biologist, a competent chemist, but a piss-poor engineer; had I had any skills I would have rather made my own mod, but it wasn't an option for my (shaky, creaky, swollen) hands to try to make.

Anyway, that's my similar story- and that's my solution. I can only hope that it works, or that while I'm trying to make it work, I end up winning an even more adaptable PV :) I have a scant few weeks to quit smoking, and get my PFT's up, and my blood pressure down for surgery. On the plus side, my docs are all for vaping. I know smoking isnt allowed in the O.R. .. I wonder about vaping ;) (j/k!)

Despite lies on glitzy "name" ecig websites, a cartomizer does not last as long as a pack or 1.5 packs of cigarettes. If you burn it dry and throw it out it might last 8-10 cigarettes worth of drags. But if you add more juice while it is still damp, and keep doing that, then one carto can last for days until it starts tasting bad or gets weaker.

And I believe Vapor4Life.com is still having 30% off orders of $60 or more with the code SuperSale30

if you need more hit than the 120mm "minis" can provide, then you have to go to fat-battery models or mods.

True! I started vaping a week ago Friday. I had already ordered an inferior kit prior to finding this site. Ordered another inferior one in the interim. Got some juice and am refilling cartomizers. You must try this.....already so much better than those prefilled ones. I have autos, so I'm being very careful not to overfill and therefore keep battery dry. It's working....

I just ordered a standard size kit from Vapor4Life (it's like a KR808D-1) and got 30% off with that code. You can use that code through tomorrow, Jan 30. You'll be able to find compatible stuff for this all over the place, too.

Please don't feel bad about the money.....I did the same thing. The experienced people on this forum (like dormouse) really know what they're talking about and dish up excellent advice.

Good luck!

This is another reason I went with the Riva once I got over the analog look-alikes. People still think you're smoking when they see one of those and it's hard to explain that you aren't smoking. When people saw with my Riva, they would ask what it was instead of assuming that I was smoking. There's even more curiosity when they see me with one of my mods, and there's no mistaking that it isn't a cigarette. I'm not smoking, so why would I want something that made it look like I was?

This last point is excellent! (as well as the advice to get a better battery device) Why would you want people to still think you are smoking?

Just spent the evening at VapeFest vaping on the new variable volt Darwin. I've vaped about 15 different devices in the last two years. This is by far the best one I've ever used. It takes all the guess work out of vaping. It automatically adjusts to any atty or cartomizer and keeps the atty vaping the same on every inhale without the user needing to do anything due to the internal circuitry of the PV. It would be a new vaper's dream because it does all the work. Wish this had been around when I was a newbie.

The experienced people on this forum made the same mistakes, usually many times, usually for a lot of money.
In readng posts it seems mistakes vs. first time success, run about 20 to 1 against, but vaping works, and it can work for you.
The hardest part of vaping is finding this forum before you're broke! LOL

Thank you, wv! And now I'm incredibly jealous because not only did you get to attend VapeFest, you got to vape a Darwin! If I can ever get the money together that will probably be my next PV.

Not sure if this will help or not since I just started vaping today, but I wanted the same things you are after. After doing a lot of research I decided I couldn't find it and be happy with the choice. I decided the most important thing would be performance and ease of use. I bought an ego-t and after most of a day vaping I am happy with the decision, I filled the tank early this afternoon and it's still going strong. I bought the ego and 30ml of juice from cignot for less than $100. Sorry you are having such a rough go of it, but stick with it and you'll find the right combo for you. Good luck!

This is very much true. I assume it's because most of us bought starter kits first before finding ECF and learning what's good and what's not. I know I definitely did. I got lucky in that V2 Cigs uses kr8 stuff so it wasn't a complete waste, but it was certainly frustrating waiting for their slow shipping, waiting even longer for more cartos (I would've had to go back to analogs if I hadn't found a local smoke shop with overpriced juice I could buy), etc.

The mall kiosks and heavy advertisers like Blu are only good for getting people interested in vaping in the first place. They snag smokers, and then the new vapers (who don't even know they're vaping yet, because the advertisers and mall folks insist on the "e-cig" and "e-smoking" terminology) find ECF. Once here, the huge wealth of knowledge and helpful folks will eventually get them going in the right direction.

Edit: I just thought of a good analogy. Mall kiosks, Blu, and other similar vendors are like Monster cables. Their product is insanely overpriced, they make ridiculous claims, and half the time (or more) they just don't work all that well. Good PV vendors are like Monoprice. The same $100 HDMI cable you'd buy from Monster can be had for $10 or less, they don't make ridiculous claims but just advertise the product, and everything I've ever bought from Monoprice works exactly as advertised.

Very rarely will you find an industry where cheaper vendors with amateurish websites are actually better than the more expensive stuff with glitzy websites, but it's true for audio/video cables and it's true for PVs :)

Don't despair or give up - you will get there! I'm 6 weeks today analog-free and never thought it would happen (after 35 years!) Took a few weeks to get the hang of it; read everything - still doing that and watching lots of videos. Google Mistress Nomad blog for great newbie videos - wish I had found those weeks ago! You do have great support with forum members! We truly are in this together! Hugs!!!

Word up to everybody. I started on a V2 cig and was disappointed with their service and their product, but it was the first one I found that had even slightly positive reviews. I then went to bloog and was more impressed with their product, but the cartomizers just didn't do it for me. Then I bought an eGo-t, which I can't speak of performance wise because I haven't received it yet. I think I finally found some great vendors (cignot, vaperite, bloog) and I'm finally off analogs for the first time in 15 years. It feels great to finally kick the habit after so many tries. It can be frustrating, but stick to the advice you get from the people on this forum and you can't go wrong. Good luck and welcome to the community!

Lots of good advice here Sandee. I would agree with telling you to try the KR808 (I use Litecig, Cignot, V4L, as suppliers). I totally relate to your experience with the sidesho. I had the exact same thing with the M401 (sidesho is an upgraded version of this) and got depressed and quit vaping completely for a bit out of frustration. Then I tried again, got the right stuff for me and that was it.

I'll just throw this in. Once you you stop smoking completely and get used to having an Ego type fat batt setup, cigarettes will seem strange, stinky and repulsive. Just be patient. Good luck!

btw, I see you're in MI by Grand Rapids. I highly recommend checking out the Mi vapers group and possibl coming out to a vape meetup in the future. Great people and it'll give you a chance to see lots of different gear and get lots of tips.

I have spent about $600 total. What I would have spent on regular cigarettes is quickly catching up though. A little 28 dollar, 5v box from madvapes has given me tremendous VPD (vape per dollar).

The "mall cigs" are what got me started but think of the 2 years that have gone by since I first attempted to vape. Had it been a decent enough device for a heavy smoker, I would have been analog free for 2 years, 1 month and 5 days.

Don't feel bummed. It happens. Dust your self off. Go to the ECF Library, read the first 6 posts by Dondaboomvape, watch some youtube videos, read up around here and then try again. Your will find your second attempt far more effective.

All the best!

Don't worry Sandie...many peeps have travel that path and then found ECF to find that they didn't make the most informed choices at first. *sigh*...such is life.

And....don't feel bad because I DID make a great choice (for me) and started with a VaporKing 808, started buying, cartos, blanks, juices batteries, chargers...THEN bought a variable voltage (not here yet) and all sorts of accessories for it. I spent roughly $1000.00 in the first three weeks! Not that you or anyone else will spend that much since you can get setup very well for under $100.0 to get started. I just went wild and bought all kinds of toys. My ponit is that even if you do get the right setup for you...you might find that you have a new hobby and continue to spend money. Again, no worries though becuase isn't whatever you spend on e-cigs/accessories vastly better than smoking analogs? In my book...it's a no-brainer and I even posted some nice info to support this perspective:

I don't think you have to go to a fat battery model like Ego unless your need 6-8 hour battery life and the option of hotter bigger hits with LR (low resistance) atomizers and cartomizers. I do think you need to step up to one of the basic models - 510 or KR808D-1.
Compared here
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...st-electronic-cigarette-first-time-vaper.html

Of the two, the longer battery life is the KR8 (though not anywhere near the battery life of an Ego).

I started on an M401 which is what the Sidesho is based on. Both are probably the pinnacle of what a cigarette-diameter ecig can offer - annoying tiny carts and a somewhat weak but tasty hit. I replaced the cart stuffing with blue foam so it would be easier to wash the stuffing etc. and I clean the atty every week (because the vapor production gets weaker if you don't keep the atty clean).

I needed a bit more so I also use both a 510 and a KR808D-1 and these are the most recommended starting units. But a standard 510 would actually have shorter battery life than Sidesho. KR8 should have more than Sidesho (280mah vs 210mah).

BTW if you want to try a 510 cheap, there are disposables at LiteCigUSA.net and MadVapes for $10. The parts are not supposed to be used with a real one but it's a cheap way to try it.

One warning - weird LED colors. Black battery 510 may have a blue LED. White ones may have a red LED. Standard KR8 in white - you should be able to find that with a red LED. Vapor4Life KR8 pretty colors have a random LED color. Not sure if Bloogplanet lets you choose the LED color of their KR8s.

sandee in the same basic boat with you (yoo hoo down here at the other end:)). Although 2 days in I am better than I was at first. Still not thrilled with the Volcano I received Friday but it is getting better and will do me good till I get the Ego I ordered yesterday. Who knows the ego maybe the one. Should come this week. Hope you hang in there and just remember this is better for you than analogs.

Good luck.
