Great article. And I agree, they really do need to be viewed as the ultimate smoking-cessation product that they are. And no, they're not medical; why does everyone have this idea that smoking-cessation needs to be medical? Clearly, the "medical" products DON'T WORK. So why keep hitting that screw with a hammer????? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of INSANITY.

I helped prompt this article last week by cancelling my daily subscription to Global Health Now after they highlighted the JAMA junk e-cig study and an accompanying article by Chang and Barry that urged all nations to ban e-cigs.

After I sent an e-mail to Brian Simpson (editor of Global Health Now) complaining about his promotion of articles advocating e-cig prohibition, he offered to post some more objective articles about e-cigs (and has urged me to resubscribe several times, including again today when he forwarded to me this article by Derek Yach).

Ever watch someone drive a nail with a screwdriver handle ? :D

That's exactly like trying to embrace smoking cessation with medical products. Just because the nannys think smoking is a sickness, doesn't make it one.

«It is time to end the war on e-cigarettes and view them as the smoking cessation aid that they are. This cultural change begins with a smarter regulatory path. Policymakers need to adopt regulations that encourage smokers to shift to reduced-harm products such as e-cigarettes and tighten up on regulatory actions aimed at regular cigarettes.»

Why an Anti-Smoking Crusader Would Embrace E-Cigarettes

I like the article, it is important news, but I don't like this part, which seems to endorse massive excise taxes (including on vaping in the future) for the purpose of Government neediness. He seems to be saying that Government policies should attempt to keep the excise tax revenues from smoking and vaping (and smokeless tobacco products) combined at current levels. Governments' need for finding funding sources should not be part of the decision (emphasis mine):
My view is that we need to build a significant gap between the actual prices of regular tobacco products versus reduced risk products, starting with an increase in tax on the former without favoring local brands (a practice followed in many developing countries) and by keeping the tax on reduced risk products very low for at least 2 decades or until they command 75% of total sales of nicotine products. Careful attention should be paid to raising excise taxes on regular products as their use declines, with the goal of maintaining total government revenues.

I liked it. It is a step in the right direction. It's a helluva lot better than the tripe I'm reading down under currently.

When they all start coming over, I suspect you will hear the words regulate and tax a lot. They will want to protect their shifting, if you get what I mean:)

Thanks Bill for persevering with these people, and thanks for posting in Oz the other day

Every little bit helps.

The writer is saying the government will like ecigs if we bribe them with enough of our money. That's what's going on with the green herb.

Yes, otherwise it's [HASHTAG]#KeepSmokingWeNeedTheMoney[/HASHTAG]

How about we end the war on tobacco in general?

I'd rather we abolish Tobacco Control & reverse all the discriminatory anti-smoker laws they shoehorned in over the past few decades, then convict all the anti-THR liars for aggravated [HASHTAG]#DeskMurder[/HASHTAG] & crimes against humanity.
