So I've been vaping for about two years, on and off. I've tried every cartomizer, tank, tank system, CE2's, bottom feeders, blah, blah, blah. I've personally found that dripping suits me best.

With that said, I use Joye standard and low resistance atomizers exclusively. My last two atomizers lasted me four months each, and both were LR's. I had also dewicked them within days of starting to use them. I had not dewicked the others and they didn't last very long at all.

This last atomizer purchase, I decided to try them without dewicking them. They vaped like champs for about a week, and then I noticed that the vapor production was getting crummy, and the flavor of my liquid was also getting poor if not downright punky. So, I decided to dewick them. Boom. Problem solved. Vapor production is back to normal, and the flavor of my liquid is also fantastic.

So my question is this: Why the heck to atomizers have wicks?? There has to be a good explanation, but for me, I just don't see the benefit. I don't see where I have to drip less with them still intact, so that isn't the benefit. The dewicked atomizers seem to have much longer life spans.

Any really smart vapers out there that can give me some insight? I'm just curious.

Joye atomizers were not originally designed for dripping, they were designed to be used with cartridges that have filler material than you drip juice into and then insert into the atty tube. The idea is that the bridge absorbs juice from the filler material and then the wick feeds the juice from the bridge to the coil.

You didn't state which type of Joye atties. 510 or 306 or another type. I have did all kinds of surgery to my Joye 306s. Dewick, Debridge, and even drilling out the holes at the base to loosen up the draw. I think the wick helps get the juice to the coil when using carts. I bottom feed and have no real use for the wicks, they just something to get in the way of all that goodness.
