Diamonds Really

Just curious how many people think they could tell a real diamond from a fake. At a casual distance like arms length or across a table.

I recently had a buddy drop a bunch on one for his new wife. She has been showing it off. And I cant help but think the money would have been better spent on just about anything. Seems like a waste.

compressed carbon. Real diamonds and "fake" diamonds are the same thing. The price is artificially set and driven by marketing. Now a nice ruby...

I have been told that cubics tend to break light up into the colors of the color spectrum better than diamonds. When I was in Vegas in Sept, in the New York New York, they have a Cubics store and you can tell the difference by the way the light reflex off. To tell you the truth though, Cubics are much nicer. If you look at the base color of most diamonds, they are close to yellow. Cubics are very very clear.

For a decoration diamonds are dumb. At any distance they are indistinguishable from the fakes. You are better off spending the extra money on a good cut and setting.

As an investment, if you know what you are buying, and do it at the right time, it's like any other cash commodity.
