I know they were supposed to be posted last night, but they never popped up on COV, nor did I get the e-mail saying they were in stock (though I didn't get the in stock email for the GGTS base either, and I did get that) So perhaps they just sold out faster than anything else?

If anyone grabbed some, let me know, just want to know if they ever actually made it onto the site. Thanks.

P.S. If ya did score a Ody ceramic V2, hit me up if you want to part with one or five ;)

The ceramics in general I assume are not technically a consumable part and would only need to be replaced if say the oddy/penny were dropped and it cracked?

That was my assumption at least. Just wanted to know how they are holding up from you longer term users. I can't imagine there being enough heat to degrade them over time in these things.

No, no need to worry about the ceramic "breaking down" or degrading, but over time from use and abuse they can crack or break since ceramic is very hard and can be brittle.

As for how long they hold up, I'd say they last quite a while. I got my Ody from the December pre-sale. My ceramic arrived broken, but still functional (one small piece broken off the bottom of one of the legs and a big crack down through the middle). I did get a replacement, but haven't yet installed it since the original broken one hasn't caused any functional issues. I have even dropped it a few times, too (just the rebuildable part by itself), and it hasn't damaged it further in any way that I can see. How's that for durability

That said, I did buy a spare Penelope ceramic last night for that slim chance of something catastrophic happening. Spares are still good, even if you may not need it for a long time

I've used an Ody(well, several), daily since I got one of the first run last December also, and through all of my torching, washing, etc, my original ceramic is still going strong as well.
Also- No o-ring inside the ceramic piece on the V1's, I still run all 3 of mine without said o-ring and not a crack or chip among them.
I use a butane torch to clean them monthly, get it glowing red hot with no problems ever. Of course I didn't do this until I got backups lol, just in case:lol:
Anyhow, mine have shown no ill effects from heating them fwiw..Boiling is certainly a good, easy option too though:)

Still looking for a Penelope ceramic backup myself, was a little too late last night- it just feels good to have reserves of stuff like this.

You're a lucky man. I have 2 Ody v1 and in both ceramics broken in half after a month in one of them and after 3 months in another. Just in case, I had ceramics in backup:)

if you torch it for about 20 seconds it will brake Ty. No reason to torch it for so long time. 10 seconds is more than ok
I'll be extra careful, I've read you need to be cautious when heating the ceramic up with a flame to clean it. Is this true? Will it get so hot it'll crack? Perhaps I'll just boil the whole rebuildable part, o-rings and all. That would be a safer bet I'd imagine.

Yeah, mine broke when I torched it, but it still fits together perfectly in the housing. Probably a good idea to have a couple extras just in case.

I am glad buddy!:toast:
torch it but not too much. Better avoid boiling because ceramic will hit the metal surface of the pot many times while the boiling will go on, so I am afraid that it may broke. But people that boiled the ceramic with milk didnt have any issue like this. I cant really tell you what to do because you have only one ceramic for now:)
Should I just avoid torching the ceramic until I get a couple of backups? Boiling might be safe bet, no amount of boiling will break it correct? Thanks a ton Imeo! By the way, LOVE Penelope!

I have a ceramic topped stove, so not able to use that for torching. I have a butane and propane torch though. I'd imagine that would be the next best thing. If I do torch it I'll be sure to only do it for a few seconds! Didn't I see you recommend to someone to boil the whole rebuildable part, ceramic included? I see what your saying about the pot banging into the ceramic if it was in the pot by itself, but what about putting the whole rebuildable assembly in?

On a side note, it's really amazing your so personal with your customers! It's been a pleasure talking to you about this stuff. Wish all manufacturers were this helpful! Thanks again Imeo.
