Did anyone transition into vaping from smoking RYO tobacco?

Because that's where I'm coming from. Hello everyone, I'm new here, still reading around the forum, learning what I can, while I wait for my G6 to be delivered tomorrow.

I have been smoking RYO tobacco for about 8 years now. Bugler (the blue pouch) is the brand I use. I plan on quitting as soon as I get my e-cig. I went with Halo, and I chose 2 of their tobacco flavors to start with. One is the Prime 15 and the other is Tribeca. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you were (or are) rollie smokers, and if so, which tobacco flavored juices you enjoy.

Also, what is your preferred nicotine strength? Smoking RYO cigs, even though they were filterless, always seemed like less nicotine to me than what I used to get when I smoked Marlboro lights. So I was actually unsure as to which strength of e-juice would be most like what I was used to. Not too many threads on the internet discuss this, it seems. Anyway, I went with 18mg. I hope that suits me.

Not a rolly smoker but welcome to the club anyway. I was 2 packs of ultra lights a day before the swap. I started on 18 nic too because I wanted to be able to FEEL it when the urge hit. I had tried some disposables and they got me through a few airport layovers but always fired up the stinky at the first opportunity and never really gave vaping a fair chance.

The transition moment came after dinner when I waited and waited until that nicotine button was being PUSHED and grabbed the vape instead and within a few minutes the craving was gone. It was almost like a moment of clarity and I knew then it was going to work.

As for tobacco flavors I landed on Dekang 555 because I'd heard of it but honestly I enjoy some fruit flavors just as well. I've also dropped to a lower nicotine as I noticed heavy use was causing some mild headache for me. I also figured out I liked a 50/50 PG/VG blend as too much PG didn't really agree with me either. Neat thing about vaping is the ability to adjust about everything.

I was a RYO smoker then switched to packs then switched to e-cigs. Personally I am not a fan of tobacco flavored juices, they taste like the smell of unburnt RYO tobacco rather than a burning cig so it didn't really simulate smoking a cig for me. I vape fruit flavored juices at 18-24mg nicotine, gets rid of the craving and tasted pretty damn good. It takes a little getting used to but once you are a week or two in it'll be smooth sailing for ya.

I would describe it pretty much the same. The 555 I vape has a definite sweet taste that my cigarettes never had. I've got some fresh RY4 from ECBlends steeping right now thats probably going to be even sweeter which is fine by me.

About the closest I've come to actual smoking was a dry hit on a nearly dead battery. No thanks!

Made my own for years. Bought tobacco by the pound, snag about 4 or 5 boxes of tubes and I'd be good for the month. Got pretty good with that injector machine, too. Could crank out a pack of smokes in under 10 minutes easily.

Started at 24mg when I started vaping. I've slowly cut that down to 8-6mg with my target being 4-6mg. I started off with the tobacco flavors, but then discovered fruits, caramels and vanillas. Oh yeah! Haven't vaped a tobacco flavor in quite a while now. :D

I am from the same boat completely. Smoked Bugler blues for years in order to save money once Camels went through the roof in price. Started with a Regal ecig starter. That was a mistake, due to price, but with some convincing, they dropped the price for me and set me up right. Since then, I finally found carts that are compatible for less money. I plan to buy something new soon...I want to get away from minis and maybe get a Ego or something like that.

As for preferences, I am currently mixing Desert ship and vanilla eliquids from eliquid USA at 18-24mg strengths and refilling my own cartos. Its working nicely. Tasty, and darn good prices.

Ex-RYO'er. Had the PV in my pocket for awhile - just occasional hits. Ran out of RYO tobacco..instead of trotting down to the store decided to give the PV a good chance. That was mid June for my last coffin nail. Still smoking a pipe, but I'm off those #$%^ cigs! Vaping Desert Ship but I really haven't found anything that tastes like tobacco -- blaming it on my meds!

I attempted RYO at one point in time and probably would have been ok, except it took much more time than I had at that particular point in my life, single mom with two kids, full time job, ill parents, yada, yada, yada...so I just switched to "generics" until a year ago.

But my daughter was a "rollie" and used American Spirit exclusively. About a month after I started vaping, she bought an eGo type battery and choose Halo's Captain Jack as her go-to juice. She never went back....:D

I came to vaping from RYO and unfiltered cigs. My RYO of choice was Stokkebye Amsterdam Shag. Amsterdam Shag is a super strong blend of dark fired KY tobacco with rich VA, similar to a European style cig (no burley or Oriental tobaccos like most American cigs). I've also enjoyed some strong oriental RYO tobaccos. While I've enjoyed the various tobacco flavors I've tried, nothing is like smoking a cig and I've generally liked the non-tobacco flavors much more and I encourage you to try some. I'm finding that I really enjoy fruit flavors or other sweet flavors with a light menthol.

In tobacco eliquids, I really like Desert Ship and Mister-E-Liquid's (MEL) Grey Matter. MEL's RYO is also a good tobacco vape. With any of the mixed to order tobacco liquids I've tried I've found that steeping them for a week to 10 days really allows the flavors to meld and makes them taste better. I can vape some of the non-tobacco liquids right away, but the tobacco ones really seem to benefit from steeping time. The tobacco liquids I've tried have had smoke flavor blended in, and the smoke flavor takes time to clam down and not dominate.

I started out at 36mg and I liked it at first, but then I found out about proper vaping technique (hold it in your mouth, inhaling is optional). Once I developed better technique 36mg seemed too strong. My next order will be 18mg juice.

RYO :)

I used to smoke roll-ups and switched to vaping. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend a specific e-liquid for ex RYO smokers, but I have tried somewhere in the region of 40 tobacco flavours.

I used 24mg liquid at the moment when I stopped smoking forever. Up until then, I was using 18mg and always sensed I was not quite getting enough nicotine.

I still vape a few tobacco flavours. I wouldn't call them the same as rolling tobacco, but I enjoy them.
at the moment....

Hangsen RY6
Totally Wicked Titan - American Red (great nutty flavour)

My husband and I used to RYO. We got into vaping with ego setups. As for tobacco flavored juice, I really thought it is what I would prefer, but I find that I prefer fruity flavors that hit well and taste great. My husband's preferred tobacco juice is Rocky Mountain Haze from Groove E-Juice. It is a tobacco and hazelnut flavor. His main juice is Sticky-Icky Cinnamon bun from Groove E-Juice. I need to have some juice on hand that is 24mg. nic while my husband is normally fine with 18mg. nic. I use a 70/30 pg/vg blend and he prefers a 60/40. This is our second attempt, last time life got in the way. The first time around my Husband was an instant quit, he hit the ecig and quit right then. I on the other hand, never got below 2 analogs a day, but I was down to 5 or less on day 1. We were both pack and half a day smokers. I wish you well on your journey, ecigs definitely taste better and are more fun. One last thing, if you need that cigarette feel...try kings disposable ecig they are 8 bucks a piece (at most gas stations) but can sometimes help those sudden urges

I used injector machines for several years. I mostly smoked pipe tobacco due to it being so cheap. I could make a pack for not much more than a dollar.

I would suggest you start making your own liquids (DIY). I think you can find some good tobacco flavors with Hangsen flavors. They are hands down the world leader in making true flavor liquid concentrates. On the front page of this forum you will find a section for eliquids with a subform for DIY. Start asking questions there and you will soon be on your way. Some of the vendors I buy from are RTS vapes and Ecig Express. At the top of this page is a blue bar with the clickable box for Forum Suppliers where you'll find the mentioned vendors. Over time, the biggest cost to vaping is buying the liquids. If you DIY you will save a ton of money. Also when you find the device you like and works for you just stick with it and don't fall for the trap of buying every new toy that comes along. Good luck

Nice to meetcha! I came from RYO's as well. I used Smokin G's pipe tobacco and zen/golden harvest tubes for a very long time, the only thing I miss about smoking ryo's is the price XD

Honestly I'm not a big fan of the tobacco flavors that i've tried thus far, but at the moment I'm vaping on some red marlboro e-juice from Hangsen, which isn't bad. As far as nicotine strength I prefer 12mg, I used to vape 18mg but it is just a little bit too much for me lol

Yep, actually spend more on Vaping than I did on RYO. To many toys any I love my toys.
This issue should correct itself in time..............I hope.

Same here  if you just buy what you need (e-liquid, replacement heads, etc) vaping isn't all that expensive but there's soo much stuff out there! lol

My last cigarettes came from a store front, organic tobacco, bulk injector type shop. 11 minutes kicked out 200 cigs in my prefered blend and weight.

When I started vaping, I was advised that, if I wanted to quit smoking tobacco that it would be a good idea to NOT get tobacco flavored liquids. To make a clean break from tobacco. This has worked well for me. Last week I took a few drags off an analog and found the taste to be horrible. I wonder now how I ever liked that flavor.

I do have one tobacco flavored e-liquid now, Uncle Junks Jon Wayne, but it tastes like chocolate chip cookies to me, not like tobacco at all. I consider it my desert vape.

Good luck to you.

Because that's where I'm coming from. Hello everyone, I'm new here, still reading around the forum, learning what I can, while I wait for my G6 to be delivered tomorrow.

I'm guessing that you're gonna like that Tribeca the best although Prime 15 does have a lot of fans. I think 18mg is a good middle ground to start at. It might be just right for you. Hopefully so.

I tried RYO several years ago but I got tired of the actual rolling. I rolled a pack at a time and it always needed done when I had better things to do. Ironically, I spend almost as much time fiddling with my vaping equipment but that doesn't bother me in the least.

I smoke stokkebye danish export for years. I've fully transitioned to vaping over the last year. I use 18mg nic strength. If you're looking for a good tobacco taste (I always actually liked the taste of handrolled cigs), I've found that Indigovapor.com has some awesome tobacco flavors.
